Allah says the truth
[Al-Ahzab 33:4]
“in that” and He guides to the [right] way.
[Al-Ahzab 33:4]
“the path of truth” Allah says the truth
[Al-Ahzab 33:4]
The author qualified it by saying
“in that”, and the correct view is that there is no qualification, even if the reason is this, because the criterion is the generality of the wording, not the specificity of the reason. What is the truth that Allah the Mighty and Majestic says? In what He says, Allah the Exalted explained it in the Qur'an itself and said:
And the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice
[Al-An'am: 115]. This is the truth that Allah the Mighty and Majestic says: truth in reports and justice in rulings. So everything that Allah the Mighty and Majestic says revolves around two things: either a report or a ruling. The truth of a report is veracity, and the truth of a ruling is justice. The best thing by which the Qur'an is explained is the Qur'an. Therefore, if someone asks, “What is the truth in the saying of Allah?” we say, the truth in the saying of Allah is what Allah the Exalted mentioned in His saying:
And the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice
and His saying:
and He guides to the [right] way.
[Al-Ahzab 33:4]
. He did not say “and He guides to the path” because the second clause is transitive to another. So there is a guider, one who is guided, and one who is guided in it, or to it? To it, and in it as well. There is a guider, which is Allah, and one who is guided, which is the person, for example, and one who is guided to it and in it as well, which is the religion, the path that leads to Allah the Mighty and Majestic. One is guided to it; this is guidance of indication. One is guided in it; this is guidance of success. Because you say, “I indicated to him such a thing” and “I guided him in such a thing,” meaning I made him act in it. And this is the wisdom in Allah the Mighty and Majestic saying in Surat al-Fatihah
Guide us to the straight path -
[Al-Fatihah 1:6]
and not saying “to the path.” Why? So that the guidance to it by indication and its explanation is included, and the second is guidance in it by acting upon it. And this is the intended meaning for every caller who calls upon Allah the Mighty and Majestic for guidance: that Allah guides him to the thing so he knows it and understands it, and guides him in it so he does not go astray from it. Clear.
guides to the right path
Which path is meant by this verse?
The path.
The “al” here is for mental covenant, and the intended meaning is the path of Allah the Mighty and Majestic. And what is the evidence for the intended meaning of the path of Allah?
The student: ...
The Shaykh :and do not follow [other] ways, for you will be separated from His way
[Al-An'am: 153]. So the path to which Allah guides is the path of Allah the Mighty and Majestic, and it is the path of truth. And He guides to the path. And among that is that He, Glorified and Exalted is He, did not make the wives from whom their husbands pronounce zihar their mothers, and did not make adopted sons their sons. So He said the truth in that and guided us to the path in that. So the wife is a wife, and the adopted son is not a son. And Allah says:
