Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “And when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease say, ‘Allah and His Messenger promised us nothing but delusion.’”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
And for this reason, He says:
And [remember] when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease said وَإِذْ يَقُولُ الْمُنَافِقُونَ وَالَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ
[Al-Ahzab 33:12]
weakness of belief
Allah and His Messenger did not promise us مَا وَعَدَنَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
[Al-Ahzab 33:12]
in the victory
Not but delusion إِلَّا غُرُورًا
[Al-Ahzab: 12]. I seek refuge in Allah; how can human beings utter such words? But, may Allah protect us, as long as their hearts are harboring disbelief or doubt—because those in whose hearts is disease have doubt and weakness of belief, and the hypocrites concealed disbelief—they said:
Allah and His Messenger did not promise us except delusion," مَا وَعَدَنَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ إِلَّا غُرُورًا
[Al-Ahzab 33:12]
Glory to Allah, the Magnificent! Allah and His Messenger promise you delusion, lie to you, and deceive you. This is impossible. Rather, Allah and His Messenger promised nothing but the truth. However, one cannot harvest honey without tasting the sting of the bees. There must be hardship and there must be patient endurance, because without this, the truthful would not be distinguished from the liar, and the believer would not be distinguished from the disbeliever. Therefore, trials are necessary. And in this regard, students of knowledge may face some difficulties in calling to Allah the Mighty and Majestic. They may face this even within themselves. But they must be patient and endure in calling to Allah, because they are not calling to the path of so-and-so or so-and-so from the paths of tyranny, but they are calling to the path of Allah, which leads them and the servants of Allah to Allah the Mighty and Majestic. So they must be patient. It is not enough that when they are told, “You are a fanatic,” “You are extreme,” or “You have such-and-such a flaw,” they retreat and abandon this. That is not correct. They must be patient, endure, and act with wisdom, not with violence. And every matter has its place, as we have passed through many cases. The outcome is that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) promised his companions victory. The believers believed in that, while the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease spoke these words:
Allah and His Messenger did not promise us except delusion," مَا وَعَدَنَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ إِلَّا غُرُورًا
[Al-Ahzab 33:12]
and they lied. By Allah, Allah and His Messenger promised them nothing but truth and sincerity. And it has come to pass, praise be to Allah. Indeed, this Ummah, praise be to Allah, by what His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) left for them of knowledge and guidance, and by what the Caliphs (may Allah be pleased with them) accomplished, conquered the palaces of Caesar and Kisra, and Yemen. The treasures of Kisra and Caesar were spent in the path of Allah. The crown of Kisra was brought from Madain to Madinah during the caliphate of 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Thus, what Allah and His Messenger promised was realized. Although the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away before it happened, in reality, he is the one who opened this, because...
