Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: ((And Allah is Strong, Mighty))
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
" [Al-Ahzab 33:25] in bringing into existence what He wills Prevailing over His command " [Al-Ahzab 33:25] Strength is an attribute by which the strong one is able to do what he wills without weakness, and it is higher than power, because power is an attribute by which the capable one is able to do what he wills without inability. So strength is higher. Look at two men who carried a rock: one carried it but with a degree of difficulty, so we say this one is capable but not strong. The other carried it as if it were something simple, so we say this one is strong. The strength of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has no end and no measure; rather, it is beyond what a human can imagine. When 'Aad said, "Who is stronger than us in strength?" Allah the Exalted said: [Surah Fussilat 15:16] As for His saying He says " Prevailing over His command " Al-Aziz (The Mighty) is one of the names of Allah the Exalted, and it has three meanings: Mighty in rank, Mighty in subjugation, and Mighty in being immune from harm. As for Mighty in being immune from harm, it means that it is impossible for any evil or deficiency to reach Him (Glorified and Exalted is He) in any of His attributes or any of His actions. As for Mighty in rank, it means that He is of great and high rank. For example, you do not say, "So-and-so is noble in spirit," because he has dignity and elevation above baseness. As for Mighty in subjugation, it comes to mean dominance, so its meaning is that He is dominant over everything. Even in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, the poet says:
"Where is the escape, when the seeking God is the one who is defeated, not the one who prevails?"
Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is the One who prevails over His command, and He is dominant over everything. Nothing occurs before His dominance. Thus, Al-Aziz (The Mighty) has three meanings: dignity of rank, dignity of subjugation, and dignity of being immune from harm, and all of these are established for Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
And sufficient was Allah for the believers in battle, and ever is Allah Powerful
وَكَفَى اللَّهُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ الْقِتَالَ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ قَوِيًّاMighty
عَزِيزًاand ever is Allah Powerful
وَكَانَ اللَّهُ قَوِيًّاDid they not consider that Allah who created them was greater than them in strength? But they were rejecting Our signs. (16) So We sent upon them a screaming wind during days of misfortune to make them taste the punishment of disgrace in the worldly life; but the punishment of the Hereafter is more disgracing, and they will not be helped.
Where is the escape, when the seeking God is the one who is defeated, not the one who prevails?"
