Continuation of the commentary on Tafsir al-Jalalayn: “That is the decree of the Mighty” in His dominion, “the All-Knowing” of His creation.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing. ذلك تقدير العزيز العليم
[Al-An'am 6:96]
thatذلك
The reference is to what preceded from His saying:
Do you indeed disbelieve in He who created the earth أئنكم لتكفرون بالذي خلق الأرض
[Fussilat 41:9]
to the end of it.
And His saying:
That is the decree of the Mighty ذلك تقدير العزيز
means that He who decreed it is the Mighty, Mighty and Majestic.
the Knowing العليم
The appropriateness of “the Mighty” here is that the matter requires might and strength. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) says: “The Mighty in His dominion”, meaning the One who possesses complete might in His dominion. But up to now, He has not clarified for us what might is. The scholars said that might is divided into three categories: the might of status, O ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Uthay, the might of subjugation, and the might of immunity. Three meanings: the might of status, the might of subjugation, and the might of immunity. As for the might of status, its meaning is honor, meaning that He is of great status, reaching the utmost in greatness. The might of subjugation means that He is the Subjugator and cannot be overcome. The third is the might of immunity, meaning that no evil can reach Him, Exalted and Majestic is He, under any circumstances. To note this third meaning, we say that it is derived from their saying: “a hard earth” (‘azaz), meaning strong and hard. We call it in the colloquial language “hard earth” (‘aza), meaning hard, not soft like sand and meadow, but solid. So how many meanings does “the Mighty” have? The student, a specific question, what is it? You, what is it?
The student: Subjugation, status, .. immunity.

The Shaykh : Immunity, and what is the meaning of immunity?
The student: Immunity from evil, meaning

The Shaykh : Yes, meaning that evil and deficiency are immune from Him. What does subjugation mean? Yes, that is correct.
The student: .. and the Subjugator cannot be overcome.

The Shaykh : Well done. He is the Prevailing One who cannot be overcome, and the third is immunity.
The student: Immunity, I mentioned it.

The Shaykh : Immunity, I say
The student: It was mentioned.

The Shaykh : Who mentioned it? And what did he say?
The student: Deficiency is immune from Him.

The Shaykh : Deficiency is immune from Him, and the might of status?
The student: The might of status is that Allah is capable of everything.

The Shaykh : No, if that were the case, we would say: the might of power (qudrah).
The student: The meaning of the might of status is strength and overcoming.

The Shaykh : No, that is the might of subjugation. Do you know now that you are daydreaming?
The student: .. I mentioned the three.

The Shaykh : Yes, may Allah reward you with good. The third, the might of status, means?
The student: Greatness and honor.

The Shaykh : Honor, yes, that is correct. The might of status means that He is of great status and great honor. As for “the All-Knowing,” He is the One who possesses knowledge, and the knowledge of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, is vast. Allah the Exalted said:
so you may know that Allah is over all things competent and that Allah has encompassed all things in knowledge. لتعلموا أن الله على كل شيء قدير وأن الله قد أحاط بكل شيءٍ علمًا
[At-Talaq 65:12]
So His knowledge is vast and comprehensive of everything. He knows what has happened and does not forget it, and He knows what will happen and does not ignore it, and He knows how it was and how it will be when it happens. That is, He does not merely know that this thing occurs and that thing occurs, but He knows that it occurs, when it occurs, how it occurs, and where it occurs, from every angle. And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, detailed the intricacies of knowledge in His saying:
And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it. And no grain is there within the darknesses of the earth وعنده مفاتح الغيب لا يعلمها إلا هو ويعلم ما في البر والبحر وما تسقَطُ من ورقة إلا يعلمها ولا حبة في ظلمات الأرض
[Al-An'am 6:59]
meaning that no one knows them
and no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record. ولا رطب ولا يابس إلا في كتابٍ مبين
[Al-An'am 6:59]
. And our knowledge that He is All-Knowing, what does this necessitate from the methodological aspect for the servant? If you know that Allah is All-Knowing of everything, what follows from this?
The student: ... Allah, Mighty and Majestic.

The Shaykh : Well done. What follows from this is that one should fear Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and perform His obedience, and leave His disobedience, because He knows that Allah the Exalted is aware of him, even if he is hidden from people, he will not be hidden from Allah. In fact, Allah knows from you what you do not know. You know from yourself what you can encompass, but Allah knows from yourself what you cannot encompass. He knows your future, your end, and your state, and you do not know. And this necessitates for the believing servant who believes in this to fear his Lord in secret and in public, even if you are in a dark room with no one present and you want to do what angers Allah, know that Allah the Exalted sees you. Yes.
The student: ... this indicates ...

The Shaykh : What?
