Then Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Ahzab: 23]. It is derived from this noble verse the praise of those believers who covenanted with Allah and were truthful to Him. The indication of this is the context: . The word “men” is indefinite for the sake of magnification, meaning great men who were truthful to what they covenanted with Allah.
Among its benefits is that among those who were truthful to what they covenanted with Allah, some died and were martyred, and some remained. We mentioned as an example of one who was martyred: Anas ibn al-Nadr (may Allah be pleased with him), for he was martyred at Uhud, and about eighty wounds were found on him.
Among its benefits is also that Allah praised these people for bringing what they covenanted with Allah in a state of perfection, without any deficiency or change, as He said:[Al-Ahzab 33:23].
Among its benefits is that if one who died earlier and one who died later are equal in what they performed of what is obligatory, then there is no difference between the one who came first and the one who came later, as He said:[Al-Ahzab 33:23]. He made the praise of them one. However, in other deeds, the one whose death was later and who did good deeds is more perfect than the first one. But with regard to the good deed in which they agreed, there is no difference between the first and the last.
Among the believers are men true to what they promised Allah. Among them is he who has fulfilled his vow [to the death], and among them is he who awaits [his chance]. And they did not alter [the terms of their commitment] by any alteration -
