except for her blanket. The wives of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not receive revelation while he was under their blankets, except Aisha. And his saying:
What is recited in your homes
is recited يتلى
means to read. Recitation is of two types: verbal recitation and meaningful recitation. If I say, “I recited the Book of Allah until I completed it,” the meaning is verbal. If I say, “the prostration of recitation,” it is the verbal recitation, what? Verbal. As for meaningful recitation, it is following the Quran; it follows it, if one follows it. Meaningful recitation means following the Quran in its beliefs, its morals, and its actions. Which of these is the greatest intended? The greatest intended is meaningful recitation. Verbal recitation is undoubtedly intended, and whoever reads a letter from the Book has ten good deeds for it, but the important one is meaningful recitation.
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.
[Surah Sad: 29] Therefore, when Isa did not have a Book with him, so you were wrong; when he had a Book with him, he will be, if Allah wills, among those who recite the Book of Allah. Yes.
what is recited in your houses of the verses of Allah and wisdom
[Al-Ahzab 33:34]
the verses of Allah آيات الله
Undoubtedly, it is the Quran, as Allah the Exalted said:
Rather, the Qur'an is distinct verses [preserved] within the breasts of those who have been given knowledge
[Surah al-Ankabut: 49] So the verses are the verses of Allah; it is the Quran. And the verses here mean the legislative verses. For the verse of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, is divided into two categories:
Cosmic verses: These are what Allah the Exalted creates and will create in this universe. All of it is signs and markers of its Creator, Mighty and Majestic, due to the exquisite craftsmanship and the perfect wise system that does not contradict or conflict. For this reason, Allah the Exalted said:
Allah has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have sought to overcome others.
[Surah al-Mu’minun: 91] If every god had taken away what it created, the universe would not be organized, because every god creates as it wishes. Then one of them must be superior to the other, because if they opposed each other and each was unable to overcome the other, it would not be valid for them to be two gods. And if one overcame the other, the one overcome would not be valid. Thus, the rational indication is that there must be only one God, and that is Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He. The important point is that cosmic verses are everything Allah creates in the universe.
As for legislative verses: These are what the messengers brought from revelation. They are called verses, O Isa, because they are signs of their legislator and the One who sent them down, due to the organization of benefits and the removal of harms in them. For the entire Shari'ah is about obtaining benefits and reducing harms. Therefore, there is nothing that contains a predominant or pure benefit except that the Shari'ah commands it, and there is nothing that contains a pure or predominant harm except that the Shari'ah forbids it. But some benefits we perceive with our minds, and some harms we perceive with our minds, and some we do not perceive, but we know with certainty that the implication of the wisdom of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and one of His names is the Wise, is that He cannot command except what contains a benefit, either pure or predominant, and He does not forbid except what contains a harm, either pure or predominant. For this reason, the books sent down from the sky are called verses because they are signs of the One who legislated them, Glorified and Exalted is He, and the One who sent them down.
Then do they not reflect upon the Qur'an? If it had been from [any] other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction.
[Surah al-Nisa: 82] They do not find any difference, once or twice or three times, a great difference and a great contradiction.
