Continuation of the benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Say: Yes, by my Lord, it will surely come to you”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Where is this taken from? From Allah’s command to His Prophet to swear by what? By the establishment of the Hour
Say: Yes, by my Lord, it will surely come to you
. For this reason, we find that some of the imams (may Allah have mercy on them), when mentioning the ruling on a particular issue, sometimes swear by it. This is found in the words of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and it may be found in the words of others, but we have not come across it. Sometimes he is asked, “Do you say such and such?” and he replies, “Yes, by Allah,” swearing by the matter to confirm it, support it, and instill a sense of reassurance in the person being addressed. Accordingly, it is permissible for the mufti to swear by the ruling if the need arises, and it may even be obligatory depending on the circumstances.
Now, regarding His saying
Say: Yes, by my Lord, it will surely come to you
, can it be inferred from this noble verse that the specific address to the Messenger includes him and the Ummah? There is no apparent indication of this in the verse. However, we have previously mentioned that the address directed to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is divided into: No, into three categories:
One category: contains a clear indication that the intended meaning is the Ummah, meaning along with the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
The second category: contains a clear indication that it is specific to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
The third category: contains no indication or evidence. Scholars differ on whether this address directed to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) includes the Ummah by virtue of the wording, or includes the Ummah by virtue of following his example. For example, an address with a clear indication that it is specific to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is like
(1) Did We not expand for you, [O Muhammad], your breast? (2) And We removed from you your burden
[Ash-Sharh 94:1-2]
. This is undoubtedly specific to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). An example where evidence has established generality is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
O Prophet, when you [Muslims] divorce women
[Al-Talaq: 1]. In His saying
when you divorce إذا طلقتم
, there is a clear indication that the address is to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), with the Ummah also intended. Everything else is numerous. Does the ruling include the Ummah by virtue of the address, or by virtue of following the example? Some say that it includes the Ummah by virtue of the address, but it was directed to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) because he is their leader. The analogy is saying to the commander of an army, “Go to such and such a front,” meaning go, along with the soldiers who follow you. Others say that it is specific to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and does not include the Ummah, but the Ummah is commanded to follow his example
There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often.
[Al-Ahzab: 21]. The disagreement in this matter is close to a verbal disagreement, as there is consensus that this ruling includes the Ummah. So, if we hear a person deny the Hour, are we allowed to swear, or are we commanded to swear to its establishment? Yes, we are commanded to swear to its establishment.
Among the benefits of the noble verse is: confirming the ruling according to what the circumstances require, or, more accurately, confirming the news according to what the circumstances require. The rhetoricians have mentioned that news is divided into three categories: either it is addressed to one with a clear mind, or to one who is hesitant, or to one who denies it. If it is addressed to one with a clear mind, there is no need to confirm it, and according to the rules of rhetoric, it cannot be confirmed except to be written. If it is addressed to one who is hesitant, it is good to confirm it so that this hesitation and doubt are removed from him. If it is addressed to one who denies it, it is obligatory to confirm it. The first is initial, the second is seeking, and the third is denying. We have passed through this in rhetoric. This issue of confirming this news
Say: Yes, by my Lord, it will surely come to you
, which of the three categories is it: denying, seeking, or initial? It is denying, because it is addressed to a people who deny it, so its confirmation was obligatory. We mentioned during the explanation an objection, which is that if these people are deniers, there is no benefit in swearing to them, because the denier of the news, whether you swear or not, is not one who will believe you. And we answered that: Yes.

The Shaykh : Just as one is certain of the existence of the omitted part, yes.
We begin delivering the lesson now.
The student : ......

The Shaykh : There is a question, there is nothing.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : how
The student : ......

The Shaykh : Yes, yes... Now, okay, are we explaining this or not?
