Commentary on Tafsir al-Jalalayn: Allah the Exalted said: “But he brought the truth and confirmed the messengers” who came with it, and that is that there is no god but Allah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers.
[As-Saffat 37:37]
who came with it, and that is that there is no god but Allah. To confirm means that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) confirmed the messengers who were sent before him. How did he confirm them? We say that his confirmation of the messengers has two aspects:
The first aspect is that his coming occurred in accordance with what they had reported, and thus that constitutes confirmation. Is that so, Yaghnam? What did you say?
The student: In accordance with what they had reported.

The Shaykh : Thus, he becomes a confirmer. Just as if I said, “Zayd will arrive tomorrow,” and then he arrived, he would have confirmed your statement, and his arrival would have been a confirmation of your statement.
Also, he confirmed the messengers by saying that the messengers are truthful. And we all know that it is part of the religion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for a person to say, “We believe in Allah and His messengers”
All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], "We make no distinction between any of His messengers."
[Al-Baqarah 2:285]
. Thus, the confirmation by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) of those who came before him is on these two aspects.
First, that his coming is a confirmation of what they reported, namely that he would be sent. And who was the last of them? Isa. He said, according to His statement:
And [mention] when Jesus, the son of Mary, said, "O children of Israel, indeed I am the messenger of Allah to you confirming what came before me of the Torah and bringing good tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmad."
[Al-Saff:6]
The second is that he described what the previous messengers brought as truth. Good.
Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers.
[As-Saffat 37:37]
He said: “who came with it, and that is that there is no god but Allah”. The truth is that there is some deficiency in the author’s interpretation of this. Why? Because he confirmed the messengers in this matter and in others. It seems the author (may Allah have mercy on him) restricted it to the phrase “there is no god but Allah” based on the context, where the context was discussing “there is no god but Allah”
(35) Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant (36) And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" (37) Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers.
[As-Saffat 37:35-37]
, meaning he confirmed them that there is no god but Allah. However, it is better to take the general meaning: confirming them in this matter and in others.
