Commentary on Tafsir al-Jalalayn: “And We saved him and his family from the great distress,” meaning drowning.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
And for this reason, he said:
And We saved him and his family from the great affliction. ونجيناه وأهله من الكرب العظيم
[As-Saffat 37:76]
The author says drowning.
And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth] وجعلنا ذريته هم الباقين
[As-Saffat 37:77]
There is a grammatical issue in the verse, which is that “al-baqin” (the remaining ones) is in the accusative case, even though it follows “hum” (they), and “hum” is the subject, and the predicate of a subject is in the nominative case. So why is it in the accusative case here?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : The brother Hidayatullah says that it is a separating pronoun, and a separating pronoun has no grammatical position. Accordingly, “al-baqin” becomes the second object of “ja’alna” (We made), because “ja’alna” is one of the verbs of causation, so it means “we turned” and takes two objects: the first object is “dhuriyyatuhu” (his offspring) and the second object is “al-baqin.” And regarding his statement:
They are the remaining ones هم الباقين
Now, if we say that it is a separating pronoun and a separating pronoun has no grammatical position, but it has a position in meaning, what is it, Ahmad?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : It means it distinguishes between the predicate and the attribute. This is one. The second is:
The student: Emphasis.
The Shaykh : It conveys emphasis.
The student: Restriction.

The Shaykh : And it conveys restriction. So the benefits of the separating pronoun are three: emphasis, restriction, and separation, meaning distinguishing between the predicate and the attribute. As for its effect on grammar, it has none whatsoever.
Now, whose offspring? His offspring, meaning his descendants. Allah made the descendants of Noah the remaining ones. For this reason, it is said that Noah (peace and blessings be upon him) is the second father of humanity, and the first father is Adam. It is also said that Ibrahim is the father of the prophets, but not the father of humanity, because humanity is not restricted to the offspring of Ibrahim. However, he is the father of the prophets because all the prophets after him are from his offspring, as the Exalted said previously:
and placed in their descendants prophethood and scripture وجعلنا في ذريتهما النبوة والكتاب
[Al-Hadid 57:26]
So the prophets before Ibrahim are from the offspring of Noah, and the prophets after Ibrahim are from the offspring of Noah and Ibrahim, because Ibrahim is from the offspring of Noah.
And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth] وجعلنا ذريته هم الباقين
[As-Saffat 37:77]
The author said: “So all people are from his (peace be upon him) descendants.”
