Discussion of the relationship between the brain and the heart.

The scholars have differed, both in the past and in the present, as to whether the intellect is in the brain or in the heart. What the Qur'an indicates is that it is in the heart, and the Qur'an is the speech of the Creator, and the Creator (Mighty and Majestic) knows best what He has created. So the intellect is in the heart, but the intellect of the heart is the intellect of action and management, not the intellect of perception and conception. The intellect of perception and conception is in the brain. The brain conceives and comprehends, and it is in the position of a secretary to the heart; it explains what it wants to submit to the heart, then it submits it to the heart, and then the heart issues the orders. Who conveys the orders to the subjects? The brain is the one who conveys the orders. That is why the muscles become active with the activity of the brain. So the matter is a chain: the one who conceives and perceives, in which is the intellect of perception, is the brain. As for the intellect of action, management, guidance, and corruption, that is the intellect of the heart. So the brain conceives and perceives things, looks into them, then submits them in writing for the heart to sign. They return to the heart, and the heart commands and forbids. But the heart does not deal with them directly itself; it is too high to directly address these soldiers. It sends the case to whom? To the brain a second time. The brain directs the orders and says: "The King commands you to do such and such," so the orders are obeyed. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 52 And at that point, the difficulty is resolved, and the sensory and legal evidences agree. Where is the location of the perceptive intellect? And the executive, guiding intellect, by which there is guidance and corruption, is the heart. Yes.
