Is it true that the intellect is in the head?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is it true that the intellect is in the head?

The Shaykh : Hehe, Allah knows best. This requires us to get a person, slaughter him, and look inside.

The questioner : The verse, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : If he has lost his intellect, then it is in his head.

The questioner : The verse, O Shaykh
hearts by which to reason لهم قلوب يعقلون بها
[Al-Hajj 22:46]

The Shaykh : Well, since you have the verse from the Qur'an, how do you ask?
So have they not traveled through the earth and have hearts by which to reason and ears by which to hear? For indeed, it is not eyes that are blinded, but blinded are the hearts which are within the breasts. أفلم يسيروا في الأرض فتكون لهم قلوب يعقلون بها أو آذان يسمعون بها فإنها لا تعمى الأبصار ولكن تعمى القلوب التي
[Al-Hajj 22:46]
Say, or is it in the brains?!
The student: In the chests.

The Shaykh : In the chests, and this Creator (Mighty and Majestic),
Does He who created not know, while He is the Subtle, the Acquainted? ألا يعلم من خلق وهو اللطيف الخبير
[Al-Mulk 67:14]
, do you understand or not? But one might say, is it not the case that if the brain is disordered, the intellect is disordered? Yes, because the brain, by the permission of Allah, is the one that has the concepts; it conceptualizes things and then sends them quickly to the heart, and then the heart commands, commands or forbids. So the true administrator of the body is truly the heart, and the one that conceptualizes the things it processes, like a secretary, and sends them to the heart, that is in the brain. For this reason, Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The intellect is in the heart and it has a connection in the brain", and some said: "The intellect is like the dynamo and the brain is like the candle", meaning like the light bulb. So the original basis is centered on the heart. The third? Three, finished.
