Continuation of the interpretation of the verse: “Say to those who disbelieve: You will be defeated and gathered to Hell, and evil is the resting place.”

In this world, you will be defeated, and in the Hereafter, you will be gathered to Hell — may Allah protect us from it — they will be assembled for it, enter it, and remain in it forever. Thus, these disbelievers will have lost both this world and the Hereafter. They lost this world through defeat, being overcome and humiliated, and they lost the Hereafter because they will be gathered to Hell. This is like His saying, Mighty and Majestic: This verse is similar to that verse. And His saying: This is a description of the Fire, may Allah protect us from it, and that it is an evil resting place, meaning it is an evil place for a person to lie down, like one who lies down in his bed and wraps himself in his blanket. May Allah protect us from it — That is something that covers and envelops them from the punishment. So, may Allah protect us from it, their state is one that a human being cannot imagine due to its magnitude and severity, and they will remain in it forever.
