Continuation of the discussion regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Say to those who disbelieve: You will be defeated and gathered into Hell, and evil is the resting place.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
And if Allah had willed, He would have taken revenge on you, but Allah tests His servants, some with others. Is that clear? What do you say? As for looking at their wealth and children and saying, “We cannot reach what they have reached, so we will become their followers and follow them,” that is not the state of a believer. The believer looks at these people as if they are nothing, but he strives for what will bring victory over them through faith in Allah, righteous deeds, preparing strength, and other means. Now, have we heard, O Hidayat Allah? I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan.
(13) Already there has been for you a sign in the two armies which met - one fighting in the cause of Allah and another of disbelievers. They saw them [to be] twice their [own] number by [their] eyesight. But Allah supports with His victory whom He wills. Indeed in that is a lesson for those of vision. (14) Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire - of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allah has with Him the best return.
[Ali 'Imran 3:13-14]
