Continuation of the benefits of the verse: “Say: Shall I inform you of something better than that? For those who fear Allah are gardens with their Lord, beneath which rivers flow, in which they will abide forever…”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Among the benefits of the verse is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is a servant who is commanded and prohibited, as Allah the Exalted said:
Say: Shall I inform youقل أؤنبئكم
He has no right in lordship whatsoever; he does not give life, nor cause death, nor provide sustenance, nor ward off harm from himself or from others, nor does he know the unseen. What distinguishes him from people? The message.
Say, "I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed قل إنما أنا بشر مثلكم يوحى إلي
[Al-Kahf 18:110]
This is a distinction, and what a fine distinction it is. Also, he himself, peace and blessings be upon him, personally possesses the capacity to bear the burdens of the message that no one else has, as Allah the Exalted said:
Allah is most knowing of where He places His message
[Al-An'am 6:124]
. Among the benefits of the noble verse is the care of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) for His creation. When He mentioned the desires He has adorned for them in the seven matters, He feared that people would turn to these desires. So, out of His care for them, He commanded His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) to inform them of what is better than that. Among the benefits of the noble verse is the excellence of the style of teaching and calling, and that it is befitting for a person in the position of calling to use words that attract attention. For if a person is told, “Shall I inform you of such and such?” he will become eager and attentive, wondering what it is that you want to inform him about, unlike if the speech were delivered without such an introduction, in which case it would not have that effect. Among the benefits of the noble verse is the permissibility of comparing two things between which there is a great difference, as in His saying:
better than that بخير من ذلكم
It is known that none of the seven desires mentioned is ever equal to the reward of the other. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
And the space occupied by the whip of one of you in Paradise is better than the world and what is on it.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1664Sahih (Darussalam)
Now, has this form of comparison between two things with a great difference occurred in the Qur'an?
The companions of Paradise, that Day, are [in] a better settlement and better resting place.
[Al-Furqan 25:24]
Like this? Indeed, Allah said, in condescension to the opponent or in agreement with the opponent’s claim:
Is Allah better or what they associate with Him?" آلله خير أما يشركون
[An-Naml 27:59]
. Among the benefits of the noble verse is that this good which Allah has made the servants long for is established for the righteous, as in His saying:
For those who fear Allah will be gardens in the presence of their Lord
[Ali 'Imran 3:15]
The meaning of taqwa (fear of Allah) has been mentioned previously. Among the benefits of the noble verse is that this good for these believers is in the most honorable neighborhood, which is the neighborhood of the Lord of the Worlds, as in His saying:
in the presence of their Lord
[Ali 'Imran 3:15]
Thus, the people closest to Allah are the people of Paradise, and for this reason Allah placed them with Him, as in His saying:
Indeed, those who are near your Lord are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, and they exalt Him, and to Him they prostrate.
[Al-A'raf 7:206]
. Among the benefits of the noble verse is the greatness of these gardens because they are with Allah in His neighborhood (Glorified and Exalted is He). Among its benefits is that the reward for these righteous people is this great abode containing pleasure without parallel, as in His saying:
gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow
[Al-Baqarah 2:25]
We have previously discussed its types. Now. Among the benefits of the noble verse is the encouragement to fear Allah, because mentioning the reward of the righteous includes the encouragement to fear Allah. Among the benefits of the noble verse is the care of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) for these people, as in His saying:
before their Lord عند ربهم
Here, lordship is specific. Among the benefits of the noble verse is that these noble people enjoy the reward of Allah with all types of pleasure, through eating, drinking, and marriage. Eating and drinking are in His saying:
gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow
[Al-Baqarah 2:25]
So they eat from the gardens and drink from the rivers. As for marriage, He said:
And purified wives
These are the foundations of bodily pleasures: eating, drinking, and marriage. Among the benefits of the noble verse is the virtue of the spouses in Paradise by being purified.
And purified wives
We have previously mentioned the meaning of purification, which is both physical and spiritual. Among the benefits of the noble verse is that the completion of the pleasure of these people is the pleasure of Allah, as in His saying:
approval from Allah ورضوان من الله
[Ali 'Imran 3:15]
And Allah the Exalted clarified in Surat al-Tawbah that this pleasure is the greatest pleasure, saying:
and pleasure from Allah is greater
. Among the benefits of the verse is the affirmation of the attribute of pleasure for Allah, as in His saying:
approval from Allah ورضوان من الله
[Ali 'Imran 3:15]
Is pleasure an essential attribute or an action attribute? It is an action attribute because it is related to His will; whenever the cause of pleasure is found, the pleasure is found. And every attribute that is contingent upon a cause is an action attribute. Among the benefits of the noble verse is the encompassing knowledge and sight of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) over the servants, as in His saying:
And Allah is Seeing of [His] servants -
[Ali 'Imran 3:15]
. Among the benefits of the noble verse is the clarification of the wisdom of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in dividing people into two groups: the righteous and the disobedient. Where did we take this from? From His saying:
For those who fear Allah will be gardens in the presence of their Lord
[Ali 'Imran 3:15]
after His saying:
Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire
[Ali 'Imran 3:14]
This indicates that people are of two types: a righteous type and a non-righteous, disobedient type. Among its benefits is that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is Wise in placing taqwa (fear of Allah) with its people, as in His saying:
And Allah is Seeing of [His] servants -
[Ali 'Imran 3:15]
So, out of His insight into His servants, He made these righteous and the others disobedient. The reward for these is Paradise, and the reward for those is the Fire. Undoubtedly, this is from the wisdom of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). For just as Allah is most knowledgeable about where He places His message, He is most knowledgeable about where He places the inheritance of His message. And the inheritance of His message is knowledge, the knowledge that includes calling and worship. Yes. Among the benefits of the noble verse is that all creation are servants of Allah. Where do we take this from, O Hajjaj? From His saying:
And Allah is Seeing of [His] servants -
[Ali 'Imran 3:15]
What is the indication? That Allah is All-Seeing of His servants. What is the indication? That it is general? Because He said:
of the servants للعباد
along with His saying:
For those who fear Allah will be gardens in the presence of their Lord
[Ali 'Imran 3:15]
This indicates that He is All-Seeing of all servants: the righteous and the non-righteous. Among its benefits is the warning against disobeying His command, because when a person knows that Allah is All-Seeing of him, he will be deterred, or he will restrain himself from disobeying his Lord. For if he disobeys his Lord, Allah is All-Seeing of him and will reward him according to his disobedience. I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan.
(18) Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge - [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise. (19) Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allah, then indeed, Allah is swift in [taking] account. (20) So if they argue with you, say, "I have submitted myself to Allah [in Islam], and [so have] those who follow me." And say to those who were given the Scripture and [to] the unlearned, "Have you submitted yourselves?" And if they submit [in Islam], they are rightly guided; but if they turn away - then upon you is only the [duty of] notification. And Allah is Seeing of [His] servants.
[Ali 'Imran 3:18-20]
