Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : How do we answer regarding the ruling on the yeast they use in flour, which helps it ferment and makes cooking easier, when some people say it is khamr (intoxicants) and not permissible to use?

The Shaykh : I answer them that there is nothing wrong with putting yeast in the dough so that it ferments, because this does not affect it in any way. Also, I do not think this yeast is intoxicating if a person were to consume and eat it. The original ruling for all foods, all drinks, and all clothing is permissibility until evidence of prohibition is established, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
It is He who created for you all of that which is on the earth. Then He directed Himself to the heaven, [His being above all creation], and made them seven heavens, and He is Knowing of all things.
[Al-Baqarah 2:29]
