The benefits of the verse: ((Indeed, repentance is only for Allah for those who do evil out of ignorance...)).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Among the benefits of this noble verse:
The repentance accepted by Allah إنما التوبة على الله
[An-Nisa 4:17]
: It clarifies the favor of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) upon His servants, in that He has obligated repentance upon Himself
The repentance accepted by Allah إنما التوبة على الله
[An-Nisa 4:17]
. Among its benefits: It is permissible for Allah to obligate upon Himself whatever He wills, but it is not permissible for the servants to obligate anything upon Him, as He the Exalted said:
He is not questioned about what He does, but they are questioned about what they do لا يسأل عما يفعل وهم يسألون عما يفعلون
However, He has the right to obligate upon Himself whatever He wills, and He has the right to prohibit upon Himself whatever He wills. Allah the Exalted said in the Holy Hadith:
O My servants, indeed I have prohibited injustice upon Myself يا عبادي إن حرمت الظلم على نفسي
This is Him prohibiting injustice upon Himself. And He the Exalted said:
Your Lord has written mercy upon Himself كتب ربكم على نفسه الرحمة
This is an obligation and a duty, and in this verse is
The repentance accepted by Allah إنما التوبة على الله
[An-Nisa 4:17]
. Among its benefits: That whoever does evil, he only does it out of ignorance and foolishness, and foolishness is the opposite of wisdom. So whoever does evil has lost wisdom from himself. Among its benefits: That wisdom varies according to its contexts. Wisdom in wealth is good management of it, and wisdom in authority is knowing what is required of it for the sake of authority. If it is the authority of sovereignty and administration, it has a specific wisdom. If it is the authority of marriage, the wisdom for the guardian is to know the suitable match for the woman and the benefits of marriage. If the wisdom is in dealing with people, likewise it has a wisdom specific to it. And what gathers all of this is good management; good management in what one manages is this wisdom, and its opposite is bad management. Among its benefits: The exhortation to hasten in repentance, as He said:
and then repent soon after ثم يتوبون من قريب
[An-Nisa 4:17]
Rather, the obligation to hasten in repentance, and the aspect of this is that the intended meaning of "nearness" here is death, and the time of death is not known. If that is the case, then hastening in repentance is obligatory, because a person does not know what may befall him, and it is likewise obligatory to hasten in repentance. And because if a person persists in disobedience, his heart becomes hard, and this small sin, even if it is from the minor sins, becomes a major one. For this reason, some scholars mentioned that being negligent with sin and persisting in a small sin makes it a major one. So if a person commits a small sin out of negligence toward Allah and the commands of Allah, it becomes a major one because of the negligence that arises in his heart regarding it. Rather, he said: And if a person commits a major sin while having great reverence for Allah (Mighty and Majestic), fear of Him, and shame from Him, but his soul incites him to do it, then that makes it a small one. And the man who was ... in intoxicants, when one of the Companions cursed him, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:
for he loves Allah and His Apostle إنه يحب الله ورسوله
Sahih al-Bukhari 6780
, so the disobedient person may have in his heart a fear of Allah, reverence for Him, and exaltation of Him that makes him, when committing the sin, ashamed of Allah and shy of Him, so the major sin becomes a small one because of the fear of Allah, exaltation of Him, and reverence for Him that accompanied it, because good deeds erase bad deeds, and the opposite is the opposite: a person may be negligent with the command of Allah and disobey Allah with a small sin, but he is negligent and not concerned with the greatness of Allah, so this small sin becomes a major one because of the negligence that arises in his heart regarding the right of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Among its benefits: The acceptance by Allah of repentance if a person repents from nearness, as He said:
It is those to whom Allah will turn in forgiveness فأولئك يتوب الله عليهم
[An-Nisa 4:17]
. Among its benefits: And the ruling also, understood from His saying:
and Allah is ever Knowing and Wise. وكان الله عليما حكيما
[An-Nisa 4:17]
And we have explained in the exegesis that the knowledge of Allah the Exalted is vast and encompassing of every small and large, near and far
Indeed, from Allah nothing is hidden in the earth nor in the heaven. إن الله لا يخفى عليه شيء في الأرض ولا في السماء
[Ali 'Imran 3:5]
. Among its benefits: The affirmation of these two names for Allah, which are: The All-Knowing and The Wise.
