The Shaykh : The husbands of their wives.

The Shaykh : What is displayed is other than their faces. Yes, according to the school of thought, it is permissible for her to display her face and hands, and what is usually visible. As for the matter of clothing, we have proceeded on the basis that the stronger position regarding adornment is the natural adornment with which Allah created women, and that what is intended by adornment is clothing. We say that the hidden adornment is that which custom dictates a woman does not display except in specific circumstances, and she does not display it except to these people.

The Shaykh : Or their fathers, or the fathers of their husbands. Yes, the fathers of their husbands is clear. Their fathers, this is clear. And the fathers of the husbands means the father of the husband, however high up the lineage he may be. You do not say, "This is my wife, the wife of my son," however low down the lineage he may be, or the wife of, for example, the son of his daughter. We said that in the matter of prohibited marriage, there is no difference between one who traces lineage through the mother or one who traces it through the father.

The Shaykh : The sons of the husbands are the sons of the husbands. If this man marries a woman and she gives birth to children, what becomes of that man? He is among the sons of the husbands. In any case, this verse is actually not connected to the issue of prohibited marriage. We must know this distinction, neither in the affirmative nor in the negative. Because we looked at the uncles, who are among the prohibited relatives, and they were not included in this regarding the affirmative. And regarding the negative, we looked at people who are not among the prohibited relatives. And so, the ruling in this verse is independent of the issue of prohibited marriage. And whoever Allah has excepted from displaying adornment to, it is obligatory to except him, and whoever is not excepted, then it is not.
