Allah the Exalted said: << فانظر كيف كان عاقبة مكرهم أنا دمرناهم وقومهم أجمعين >

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Then look how was the outcome of their plan
[Surah al-Naml: 51].
So look
[Surah al-Naml: 51] The address is primarily to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or to whoever it is appropriate to address. That is: "So look, O addressed one," or "So look, O Muhammad," who is the head, leader, and imam of this Ummah, so his address is also an address to the Ummah.
Then look how was the outcome of their plan
[Surah al-Naml: 51] "How" is an interrogative noun that suspends
Lookانظر
from acting, and for this reason we say: its grammatical position is accusative as the predicate of "was" (kana) placed before it, and the sentence of "was" and its predicate are in the position of accusative as the object of
Lookانظر
. So look how was the outcome of their plot. The outcome is what follows a thing. That is: look at what follows their plot in terms of the matter:
That We destroyed them أَنَّا دَمَّرْنَاهُمْ
[Surah al-Naml: 51] "We destroyed them." Do you have it with an open hamza or a kasrah?
The student: ....?

The Shaykh : There are two readings: with an open hamza, "I destroyed them," and with a kasrah, "Indeed, We destroyed them." As for the kasrah, it is like His saying, the Exalted:
(18) 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. (19) Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune,
[Surah al-Qamar: 30 - 31]. So on the reading with the kasrah, it is a new sentence to explain this outcome:
Then look how was the outcome of their plan
[Surah al-Naml: 51].
And as for... now it leads to this outcome, and the new sentence was brought to explain it: "Indeed, We destroyed them and their people all together."
As for the reading with the open hamza, it is an explanation of the outcome, a substitute for it: "So look how was the outcome of their plot: that We destroyed them." Or that it is the predicate of a deleted subject, the estimation being: it is:
that We destroyed them and their people, all.
[Surah al-Naml: 51].
And His saying, the Exalted:
We destroyed them دَمَّرْنَاهُمْ
The author says: "We destroyed them" is from destruction (tadmir), which is more emphatic than perishing (ihlak), because destruction implies the severity and magnitude of this perishing. And so it was, for the people of Salih were taken, may Allah protect us, by two things: a shout and a quake.
They were shouted at and the earth quaked with them until their buildings collapsed upon them, and their hearts burst in their chests. We ask Allah for well-being. Allah, the Exalted, said:
Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen.
[Surah al-Qamar: 31] like dry twigs... may Allah protect us.
So this... great result is the consequence of this disobedience, rebellion, and plot that they intended against the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And His saying:
We destroyed them and their people دَمَّرْنَاهُمْ وَقَوْمَهُمْ
[Surah al-Naml: 51] even though the people did not participate in this crime, but this is the ill omen of sins: that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, when He punishes someone for it, it encompasses everyone, even though their people were deserving of punishment because they were disbelievers and deniers. But the hastening of the punishment was connected to this cause, which is the plot of these people against Salih. This may not be something their people were deserving of, but they were encompassed, may Allah protect us, by the punishment of these people. And Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, mentioned in other detailed verses that their Prophet Salih said to them:
Enjoy yourselves in your homes for three days
[Surah Hud: 65] "So enjoy yourselves and remain for three days," and then after that, Allah, the Exalted, took them with this shout and quake. And His saying:
all of them أَجْمَعِينَ
[Surah al-Naml: 51] What is its grammatical position?
The student: Emphasis.

The Shaykh : It is an emphasis of His saying:
and their people وَقَوْمَهُمْ
[Surah al-Naml: 51] "to the people," meaning: no one remained from them except those who were believers in Salih (peace and blessings be upon him). And the author's saying: "by the shout of Jibril or by the angels throwing stones at them, which they see but they do not see them".
As for his saying: "by the shout of Jibril", this may be acceptable, because Allah, the Exalted, says:
Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky
[Surah al-Qamar: 31]. And this shout is either from Allah, or from Jibril, or from others among the angels. The important thing is that they were destroyed by a shout.
And as for his saying: "or by the angels throwing stones at them", I do not know a basis for this, but it was said: when they came to Salih, Allah, the Exalted, ordered the angels to guard him. So when they came and found the angels guarding him, the angels began to throw stones at them... and this has no basis. If this is not from an infallible source, it is not acceptable, and it is also not fitting that the angels throw stones and that they are from among humans. But we say: what Allah, the Exalted, destroyed these people and their people with is the shout and the quake, as that came in the Qur'an, and we do not go beyond the Qur'an in this matter, because Allah, the Exalted, says in Surah Ibrahim:
No one knows them but Allah.
[Surah Ibrahim: 9]. So as long as these matters are from the knowledge of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, we do not go beyond what is in them except what came from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with an acceptable chain.
