He says that I am a military officer, and we have the word "my master" for the military officer, which is repeated several times a day. Is there a master other than our master Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)?

The questioner : He says that I am a military officer, and we have the word "my master" for the military officer, which is repeated several times a day. Is there a master other than our master Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)? And does a sin touch us or not? We ask for clarification. May Allah guide you.

The Shaykh : The master in an absolute sense is Allah (Mighty and Majestic). As for "master" when specified, it is permissible because it becomes a specific form of lordship, provided that the person to whom it is said is worthy of such lordship. For example, it is permissible for a person to say to his father, "This is my master," or to his elder brother, "This is my master." And a slave may say to his owner, "This is my master," just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
And let him say: My master and my lord وليقل: سيدي ومولاي
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said to al-Aws when Sa'd ibn Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) approached:
Rise to your master. قوموا إلى سيدكم
The important point is that it is permissible for a person to describe one who is worthy of lordship as his master. However, if the person to whom it is said is not worthy of lordship because he is an open sinner or a disbeliever, then he does not deserve it, and it is not befitting for a Muslim to say to him, "My master," because this is a humiliation of the Muslim. The Muslim is elevated by his Islam above other human beings. Yes.
