The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: <<

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Then Allah the Exalted said:
And the heart of Moses' mother became empty [of all else]. She was about to disclose [the matter concerning]
[Al-Qasas 28:10]
One of the benefits of this verse is that a person has a state when calamity descends upon him that is different from his state before it. You see... regarding this benefit, when calamity befalls a person, his state changes. The heart of the mother of Moses became empty, even though she had previously been at peace. For this reason, she placed him in the chest and cast it into the sea, which is the height of peace. But now her heart became empty, anxious, as if there was nothing in the world but her son. This is the reality: a person has a state before calamity and a state after it. Therefore, a person should not expose himself to calamity. It is mentioned that Sahnun, one of the students of Malik (may Allah have mercy on him), was at the peak of satisfaction with the decree of Allah and in worship, and so on. He said one day a poem, but I do not remember it except its meaning; only its meaning comes to mind. He said a poem whose meaning is:
that I am patient, so do as You will, then test me
Then he was afflicted with difficulty in urination. The difficulty in urination became such that he would not urinate except like a passerby. So he would pass by the boys in the school in their classrooms and say, "Pray for your uncle the liar," because the supplication of children is expected to be answered. So the point is that a person has a state before calamity and his state changes after it. Likewise, in legal matters, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever hears of the Dajjal, let him be far from him. For a person comes to him while he is a believer, or he thinks he is a believer, then he does not cease with him until he destroys him
This is the reality. A person must guard himself from calamity. It was narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Let no one of you humiliate himself. They said, "How does he humiliate himself?" He said, "He exposes himself to calamity that he cannot repel" لا يُهِن أحدكم نفسه قالوا كيف يوهن نفسه قال يتعرض من البلاء ما لا يمكنه دفعه
This is the meaning of the hadith. So the conclusion is that a person has a state before the existence of calamity and a state after it. It is also evidence that a person is not held accountable for what human nature dictates. What human nature requires is not what a person is held accountable for. The explanation is that the heart of the mother of Moses should not have been empty of the remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and the Hereafter, but it became empty, with absolutely nothing in it except the remembrance of Moses. This is the requirement of human nature, because the great matters that befall a person make him forget everything. It is also evidence of the virtue of the mother of Moses (may Allah be pleased with her) because she did not reveal what was in her heart to anyone, as He said:
She was about to disclose [the matter concerning] him had We not bound fast her heart
[Al-Qasas 28:10]
And in the verse is evidence that a person is in need of Allah the Exalted in all his states, especially when events occur, as He said, "If not that We had strengthened her heart." A person is in need of Allah, and without the help of Allah, a person would not do anything, neither patience in calamity nor gratitude in times of ease. It is also evidence for the affirmation of causes and means, as He said:
that she would be of the believers.
[Al-Qasas 28:10]
Who are those who deny causes and means?
The student: The Jahmiyyah.

The Shaykh : The Jahmiyyah and the Asha'irah, even the apparent and clear causes, they deny them. They say that a thing happens in the presence of a cause, not by it. So even if you take a stone and hit glass with it and it breaks, they do not say that the glass broke by the stone, but that it broke in its presence. Even if you place the stone on the glass, on top of it, does it break or not? It does not break on top of it, but if you hit it with it, it breaks.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : We say that the pain occurred when you hit it, not by it, but rather...
The student: The clearest example, O our Shaykh, is one who takes medicine and is sick, and he supplicates saying, "O Allah, make my healing occur with the medicine."

The Shaykh : Based on their denial of causes, we ask Allah for well-being. And in His saying:
that she would be of the believers.
[Al-Qasas 28:10]
there is evidence that faith and perfection are more abundant in men, because He did not say "to be among the believing women." Then His saying in Maryam also indicates this:
and she believed in the words of her Lord and His scriptures and was of the devoutly obedient.
[At-Tahrim 66:12]
And for this reason, it came in the hadith:
Many amongst men reached (the level of) perfection but none amongst the women reached this level except Asia, Pharaoh's wife
Sahih al-Bukhari 3411
There is no doubt that faith is more abundant, more steadfast, and more abundant in men. So in the hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you.
Sahih al-Bukhari 304
We only established this because it is obligatory for a person to consider the woman. It is obligatory for a man to consider the woman, and that she is in need of care. She is also in need of not being answered to everything she requests, for she is deficient in intellect and deficient in religion, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) described her with that.
Now, in the verse there is also evidence for the affirmation of divine decree and destiny. Where do we take this from? From "If not that We had strengthened her heart," for this is from the decree and destiny of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He).
