The questioner : In his first question, he asks: Is it permissible for the one praying to say in the tashahhud, “O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad,” or to say, “O Allah, send blessings upon our master Muhammad”?

The Shaykh : It is better to say, “O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad,” because this is the manner in which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded his Companions when they said: “O Messenger of Allah! We know how to greet you, but how do we send blessings upon you?” He said:
He told us to say, “O God, bless Muhammad and Muhammad’s family as Thou didst bless Abraham and Abraham’s family. Thou art indeed praiseworthy and glorious. O God, grant favours to Muhammad and Muhammad’s family as Thou didst grant favours to Abraham and Abraham’s family. Thou art indeed praiseworthy and glorious.”

Adhering to what the Shari'ah has brought is preferable. However, there is no doubt that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is our master, indeed the master of the descendants of Adam, indeed the master of all the worlds absolutely. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I shall be pre-eminent amongst the descendants of Adam on the Day of Resurrection أنا سيد ولد ءادم يوم القيامة
Sahih Muslim 2278
But this belief of ours does not necessitate that we mention this mastership in every prayer upon him and in every occasion. Rather, we stick to what has been reported from him (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the manner of sending blessings upon him and in other matters. This is what is preferable, this is what is following, and this is what is required by his being the master (peace and blessings be upon him): that we be respectful before him and that we do not worship Allah except with what He has prescribed. Because as long as we believe that he is the master, that means we commit to what he said and turn to where he directed us (peace and blessings be upon him). Yes.
