Reading from the author's text with commentary and collation of manuscripts: "And Muhammad ibn al-Hasan mentioned

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: So Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said in *Iqtida' al-Sirat al-Mustaqim*: "And Muhammad ibn al-Hasan mentioned, from 'Abd al-'Aziz Muhammad"

The Shaykh : 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Muhammad.
The reader: Is it a correction, Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Yes, that is correct.
The reader: "And Muhammad ibn al-Hasan mentioned, from 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Muhammad and Muhammad ibn Isma'il and others, from Muhammad ibn Hilaal, and from more than one of the people of knowledge: that the house of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) — in which is his grave — is the house of 'A'ishah in which she resided, and that it is square, built with black stones and plaster".

The Shaykh : And that it is?
The reader: "And that it is square, built with black stones and plaster, and that the side facing the qiblah is the longest, the eastern and western sides are equal, and the northern side is the shortest, and the door of the house is on the side facing Sham, and it is sealed with black stones and plaster. Then 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz built this visible structure over that house".

The Shaykh : The plaster in the footnote is the gypsum used to bind the stones. Yes.
The reader: "Then 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz built this visible structure over that house, and 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz angled it so that people would not take it as a qiblah for prayer specifically, distinct from the rest of the Prophet's Mosque (peace and blessings be upon him)".

The Shaykh : Angled it means he made it have triangular corners, so that the third corner, when a person faces it, does not face the wall, meaning: the qiblah is toward the one facing it.
The reader: "And that is because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, as 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Muhammad narrated to me, from Shurayk ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Numayr, from Abu Salama ibn 'Abd al-Rahman:
Let Allah destroy the Jews for they have taken the graves of their apostles as places of worship. قاتل الله اليهود اتخذوا قبور أنبيائهم مساجد
Sahih Muslim 530a
.
And Malik ibn Anas narrated to me, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from 'Ata' ibn Yasar, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
O Allah! Do not make my grave an idol that is worshipped. The anger on those who took the graves of their Prophets as places of prostration was terrible. اللهم لا تجعل قبري وثناً يعبد، اشتد غضب الله على قوم اتخذوا قبور أنبيائهم مساجد
Muwatta Malik 9:93
.
So these reports, when added to the reports we have mentioned before, show how the Salaf were in this matter, and that what many of the Khalaf are upon in that regard is among the abominations in their view.
And this does not include what is narrated that some people heard the response to the greeting from the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or from the graves of other righteous people. And that Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib used to hear the adhan from the grave on the nights of al-Hurrah, and the like of that. So all of this is true, but it is not what we are discussing, and the matter is greater and more significant than that"
.

The Shaykh : This means that it may happen as a karamah for some people to hear the adhan from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or from the grave of another, but this does not mean that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is alive with worldly life such that one asks him for supplication or intercession or the like of that. Yes.
The student: But how can the adhan be heard from his grave (peace and blessings be upon him)?

The Shaykh : No, not everyone, Ibn al-Musayyib.
