The reader: As for what follows, the Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said in *Iqtida' al-Sirat al-Mustaqim*: "And those who disliked recitation at the grave, some of them disliked it even if they did not intend to recite there, just as prayer is disliked, for Ahmad forbade recitation in the funeral prayer there. It is known that the recitation in prayer is not intended to be recitation at the grave, and yet the difference between what is done incidentally and secondarily, and what is done for the sake of the grave, is clear as mentioned before.
The endowments that people have established for recitation at their graves have the benefit that they help in preserving the Qur'an, and they are a provision for the memorizers of the Qur'an"
The Shaykh : Do you have that?
The student: Yes.
The Shaykh : Is it available? And the endowments.
The reader: Yes "The endowments that people have established for recitation at their graves have the benefit that they help in preserving the Qur'an, and they are a provision for the memorizers of the Qur'an, and they encourage them to preserve it, study it, and stick to it".
The Shaykh : And 'ba'ithah' or 'ba'ith'?
The reader: No, and 'ba'ithah'.
The Shaykh : With the taa?
The Reciter: Yes.
The Shaykh : Continue.
The reader: "And they are a provision for the memorizers of the Qur'an, and they encourage them to preserve it, study it, and stick to it. Even if it is possible that the reciter is not rewarded for his recitation, it is something by which the religion is preserved, just as it is preserved by the recitation of the wicked man and the jihad of the wicked man. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 111.
The elaboration of the discussion on endowments and their conditions has been mentioned in another place, and it is not the intention here.
As for the remembrance of Allah there, it is not disliked, but intending the place for remembrance there is a disliked religious innovation".
The Shaykh : Yes, as for the remembrance of Allah
The reader: "But intending the place for remembrance there is a disliked religious innovation, for it is a type of making it a festival, and so is intending it for fasting there.
And whoever permits recitation does not permit making it a festival, such as setting a known time in which he habitually recites there, or gathering there for recitation or the like. Just as whoever permits remembrance and supplication there does not permit making it a festival in the same way, as mentioned before".
The Shaykh : And his statement (may Allah have mercy on him) that it is a disliked religious innovation, he probably meant by 'disliked' here the dislike of prohibition, because every religious innovation is misguidance as stated in the hadith, so it appears that his intention is that it is for prohibition, though it is possible that it is for leaving the preferred, but that is unlikely.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira: We participated in the Battle of Hunain along with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). He (the Holy Prophet) said about a man who claimed to be a Muslim that he was one of the denizens of the Fire (of Hell). When we were in the thick of the battle that man fought desperately and was wounded. It was said: Messenger of Allah, the person whom you at first called as the denizen of Fire fought desperately and died. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) remarked: He was doomed to the Fire (of Hell). Some men were on the verge of doubt (about his fate) when it was said that he was not dead but fatally wounded. When it was night he could not stand the (pain of his) wound and killed himself. The Apostle (ﷺ) was informed of that. He (the Holy Prophet) observed: Allah is Great, I bear testimony to the fact that I am the servant of Allah and His messenger. He then commanded Bilal to announce to the people that none but a Muslim would enter Paradise. Verily Allah helps this faith even by a sinful person.
