And we believe that He has dominion over the heavens and the earth: << He creates what He wills. He gives to whom He wills females, and He gives to whom He wills males, * or He makes them both males and females

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And we believe that He has dominion over the heavens and the earth. Dominion over the heavens and the earth means creation, and what else, and management. He is the Creator and He is the Manager.
He creates what He wills يخلق ما يشاء
[Ali 'Imran 3:47]
He creates what He wills يخلق ما يشاء
[Ali 'Imran 3:47]
not ما
It is said that this refers to the non-rational, even though we see in the created things
The student : Rational

The Shaykh : What is rational, so why did he use the expression indicating the non-rational to include both the rational and the non-rational? They said because the non-rational is more numerous than the rational. The non-rational is more numerous than the rational. Is this correct or not?
The student: Correct.

The Shaykh : Correct. Why? Because there are many bodies that are non-rational, and there are attributes in the rational that are created by Allah, and the attributes themselves are described as rational or non-rational.
The student : Non-rational

The Shaykh : Non-rational. So now the non-rational is far more numerous than the rational, because the rational has attributes, and they are non-rational. From this we know the secret of the expression in the saying of the Exalted
marry those that please you of [other] women فانكحوا ما طاب لكم من النساء
[An-Nisa 4:3]
and He did not say "from those who are pleasing" because the intended meaning is not the person of the woman, but her attributes, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said
A woman is married for four things: her wealth, her lineage, her beauty, and her religion. تنكح المرأة لاربع لمالها وحسبها وجمالها ودينها
Sunan ad-Daraqutni 15:267
And for this reason He said
those that please you ما طاب لكم
[An-Nisa 4:3]
Shaf, Subhan Allah al-Azim. The expression of the Qur'an is amazing, but it requires a person who has deeply reflected on the Arabic language. Okay, so here he used the expression that includes the rational by preponderance, yes, including the rational and the non-rational by preponderance of the non-rational side, because it is what? More numerous.
He gives to whom He wills female [children] يهب لمن يشاء إناثا
[Ash-Shuraa 42:49]
He gives يهب
He gives
for whoever wishes لمن يشاء
Shaf, it came from
to whom He wills female لمن يشاء إناثا
[Ash-Shuraa 42:49]
meaning from the rational, and also from others, but the most important thing is the rational.
and He gives to whom He wills males. ويهب لمن يشاء الذكور
[Ash-Shuraa 42:49]
The philosophers among the grammarians and rhetoricians said: Why did he mention females first, even though females are disliked by most people, and he delayed males, even though males are desired by most people? Is that not so? Yes.
They said for two reasons. The first reason is that he began with what a person dislikes, as an indication that Allah the Exalted is the One who has dominion, and that He does not create things according to people's desires, but according to what His wisdom requires. However, He corrected this precedence, yes, or broke this precedence with reality by His saying
females إناثا
an indefinite noun, and the indefinite is a negation.
females إناثا
In males, He delayed them to make it clear that the matter is not for man to advance whom he wills and delay whom he wills. However, He corrected this delay by His saying
males الذكور
and He did not say "males" (indefinite). The entry of the definite article indicates their high status. Males means the males who are desired. So there is praise for males by the entry of the definite article. This is what they said. So we say, Allah knows best. If this is the wisdom, then it is wisdom, if Allah wills. Otherwise, it is for Allah to express what He wills. And for this reason the second one came:
Or He makes them [both] males and females أو يزوجهم ذكرانا واناثا
[Ash-Shuraa 42:50]
He placed males here first because the distinction was not mentioned.
He makes them male and female يزوجهم
He makes them spouses, meaning He makes them categories: males and females. So the woman... so the man has males and females. The fourth category is
and He renders whom He wills barren ويجعل من يشاء عقيما
[Ash-Shuraa 42:50]
no males and no females. And this is the reality. Meaning, this fourfold division corresponds exactly to reality, because some people have offspring who are all males, and some people have offspring who are all females, and some people, and this is the majority, have offspring who are males and females. The fourth category is few, and praise be to Allah, and that is the sterile one. This is few. Do you understand now? Is there a fifth category?
The student: No.

The Shaykh : No. How? There is no fifth category. What is the fifth? Yes.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Yes
The student: ...

The Shaykh : No one is
The student: ...

The Shaykh : This is what... the words of the children. They do not count these. They are either males or females, or males and females, or sterility. He said
Indeed, He is Knowing and Competent. إنه عليم قدير
[Ash-Shuraa 42:50]
Indeed, he إنه
meaning the Lord, Mighty and Majestic, the Creator of creation in these four categories, is All-Knowing of what is suitable for the condition of man, and what makes this one sterile, and this one's offspring males, and this one's offspring females, and this one mixed.
the All-Mighty قدير
meaning possessing power. And power is an attribute by which a person is able. Yes. An attribute by which the powerful one is able to do what he is able to do without weakness. This power is an attribute by what? By which the powerful one is able to do what he is able to do without weakness. This All-Powerful, the Strong, is an attribute by which the strong one is able to do what he is strong enough to do without weakness. The opposite of strength is weakness. The opposite of power is inability. And the proof of this is His saying, the Exalted
Allah is the one who created you from weakness, then made after weakness strength الله الذي خلقكم من ضعف ثم جعل من بعد ضعف قوة
[Ar-Rum 30:54]
and His saying, the Exalted
But Allah is not to be caused failure by anything in the heavens or on the earth. Indeed, He is ever Knowing and Competent. وما كان الله ليعجزه من شيء في السماوات والأرض إنه كان عليما قديرا
[Fatir 35:44]

The student : Time

The Shaykh : The time is up. Okay, let us take the easiest of these verses. The verses of al-Hashr. How many names are in it?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Count them.
The student : Seventeen, eighteen...

The Shaykh : No one has seen them. Let us count now. Okay, let us see. Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy, the King, the Holy, the Peace, the Believer, the Guardian, the Mighty, the Compeller, the Exalted, the Creator, the Maker, the Fashioner, the Wise.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Here I mentioned first.
The student: I did not mention it.

The Shaykh : How? I did not mention it. I mentioned the Guardian, the Mighty.
The student : Knower of the unseen and the witnessed

The Shaykh : No, this is a description. This is a description. It became fifteen. Yes. Okay. Yes.

The questioner : The

The Shaykh : No, it can be "The" meaning Allah, and if... it became sixteen. Okay. The second one, how many names are in it?
The student : The All-Powerful, the All-Knowing, the All-Powerful

The Shaykh : All-Knowing, All-Powerful. Two names from the names of Allah. As for the descriptions, the attributes, they are many. Okay, is Allah called the Bestower?
The student: No.

The Shaykh : But the Bestower came like this. The Bestower is a report about Allah. If I said that Allah is the Bestower, this is a report and not a name. Rather, the name is the Bestower. Okay, the All-Powerful.
The student : A name

The Shaykh : A name. The All-Knowing is a name. Okay. May Allah bless you. Yes.
