And we believe that Allah: << He has knowledge of the Hour, and He sends down rain, and He knows what is in the wombs. And no soul knows what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul knows in what land it will die. Indeed

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author said, may Allah preserve him: "And we believe that Allah
Indeed, Allah [alone] has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs. And no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul perceives in what land it will die. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted. عنده علم الساعة وينزل الغيث ويعلم ما في الأرحام وما تدري نفس ماذا تكسب غدا وما تدري نفس بأي أرض تموت ان الله عليم خبير
[Luqman 31:34]
And we believe that He"
..

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Among the verses of knowledge is the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
And with Him are the keys of the unseen وعنده مفاتح الغيب
[Al-An'am 6:59]
He has عنده
The news is placed before, and
the keys مفاتح
the subject is placed after. Placing the news before indicates
The student: Restriction.

The Shaykh : restriction. "Mafatih" is the plural of "miftah" or the plural of "miftah," and there are two opinions on this, but the correct one is that it includes all of them. So the keys of the unseen are with Allah, and the places of the unseen are also with Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
knowledge of the Hour علم الساعة
The Hour is the great Hour in which people die and then are resurrected.
And He sends down the rain وينزل الغيث
"Al-Ghayth" is rain that removes hardship. As for rain that does not remove hardship, it is not "ghayth," based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
The drought is not that you do not receive rain, but the drought is that you receive rain and the earth does not grow anything. ليست السنة أن لا تمطروا ولكن السنة أن تمطروا فلا تنبت الأرض شيئا
Likewise, the rain that does not remove hardship is not sent down except by Allah.
and knows what is in the wombs ويعلم ما في الأرحام
[Luqman 31:34]
is the plural of "rahm" (womb), which is the container of the fetus in the mother's belly. "Al-Arham" here includes every one who has a womb, every female who has a womb, among humans and non-humans. His knowledge of what is in the wombs is knowledge of the fetus itself, its deeds, its outcome, its lifespan, and other related matters.
no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow وما تدري نفس ماذا تكسب غدا
[Luqman 31:34]
soul نفس
is an indefinite noun in the context of negation, so it encompasses every soul that does not know what it will earn tomorrow. Even if a person estimates that he will do such and such tomorrow, does he know that he will earn it? Yes, no, it is not necessary. He may be prevented from it by a change in thought and will, or he may be prevented from it by inability, or he may be prevented from it by a compulsory diversion, such as a person preventing him from it or something similar. The important thing is that a person does not know what he will earn tomorrow. And He said:
What will you earn ماذا تكسب
and did not say "what you do," because the whole matter revolves around earning, because a deed may go to waste and the person does not benefit from it, or he may earn good in it, either in religion or in this world.
and no soul perceives in what land it will die وما تدري نفس بأي أرض تموت
[Luqman 31:34]
soul نفس
is an indefinite noun that encompasses every soul that does not know where it will die. Will it die in your country, or in a neighboring country, or in a distant country, or in the sea, or in the air? You do not know. A person may die in an airplane in the air or in the sea.
Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted. إن الله عليم خبير
[Luqman 31:34]
These five are the keys of the unseen, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) interpreted them. We start first with:
Knowledge of the Hour علم الساعة
The key to what? The key to another world. And the Hour, as I told you, is the one in which people are resurrected, but it may include something broader, which is the hour of the person, because the Hour is of two types: a general Hour for all creation, which is the great Resurrection, and a specific Hour for each person himself, which is the small Resurrection. That is why it is said: "Whoever dies, his Resurrection has occurred" He has ended from this world. So, the Hour is the key to what?
The student: To another world.

The Shaykh : Yes, to another world. Knowledge of the Hour is specific to Allah; no one knows when it will be, even the most noble of creation and the most knowledgeable of creation about Allah does not know when it will be. That is why the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked, and the questioner was Jibril:
When is the Hour متى الساعة
He said:
The one who is asked knows no more than the one who asks ما المسؤول عنها بأعلم من السائل
Mishkat al-Masabih 741
But it has signs and indicators, some of which have already come and passed, and some are yet to come.
So, from the benefits of this hadith, then, okay:
And He sends down the rain وينزل الغيث
The key to what?
The student: Good.

The Shaykh : The key to the revival of the earth after its death. And the revival of the earth after its death is similar to the revival of people after their death. So it is the key to life, the life of plants.
and knows what is in the wombs ويعلم ما في الأرحام
[Luqman 31:34]
The key to what?
The student: The life of man.

The Shaykh : The key to every person according to his condition, because this is the beginning of life, which occurs in the womb.
no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow وما تدري نفس ماذا تكسب غدا
[Luqman 31:34]
The key to time. Deeds in the future, no one knows about them.
and no soul perceives in what land it will die وما تدري نفس بأي أرض تموت
[Luqman 31:34]
This is the key to the world of the Hereafter for every person according to his condition. The point is that whoever does not know in what land he will die certainly does not know in what time he will die, because the obscurity of time is more emphatic than the obscurity of place. For a person may estimate that he will not leave this land and say, "My time will come to me while I am here." But even so, if Allah wills for him to die in a land, He makes him have a need for it, so he leaves his country. So I say, if a person does not know in what land he will die, even though he can control the place, then his not knowing in what time he will die
The student: Is all the more so.

The Shaykh : is all the more so. Do you understand what I am saying or not?
The student: No, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: I did not understand the last part.

The Shaykh : The one who does not know in what land he will die, all the more so, does not know in what time he will die. How is that? Because a person controls the place more than he controls time. In fact, he has no control over time at all. How is this? A person may decide that he will not leave this country and that he will die in this country, is that not so?
The student : Yes

The Shaykh : Are you sure? Okay, a person may travel, for example, from his country to Makkah and say, "I wish to die in Makkah," because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
O Allah, grant forgiveness to the inhabitants of Baqi' al-Gharqad. اللهم اغفر لأهل بقيع الغرقد
Sahih Muslim 974a
So I hope to be among them. He goes to Makkah, deciding that he will what?
The student: Die there.

The Shaykh : Die in it. But if Allah has decreed that he will die in a land, He makes him have a need for it, so he travels and dies. We find that people have accidents on the way and die in that place. Did they ever feel before that they would die in that place? Never. So I say, if a person does not know in what land he will die, even though he can control it, then all the more so, he does not know in what time he will die, because he has no control over time. Clear, everyone? Okay.
