And we believe that Allah the Exalted has no likeness, because of the perfection of His attributes, not because of the absence of His attributes: << ليس كمثله شيئ وهو السميع البصير >> [ al-Shura : 11 ]

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"And we believe that Allah the Exalted has no likeness, because of the perfection of His attributes, not because of the absence of His attributes" Now, understand the difference. We believe that He has no likeness because of the perfection of His attributes, not because of the absence of His attributes. He has no peer because there is no existent thing that does not have an attribute. No, that is not the intended meaning. The intended meaning is because of the perfection of His attributes. Yes, the people of ta'til (denial of the divine attributes) said He has no likeness, so they denied His attributes. According to their claim, He has no likeness by what?
The student: ... the essence of the attribute

The Shaykh : In the absence of His attributes, meaning He has no likeness, meaning He is not described with any attribute of the created. And we say He has no likeness
The student: because of the perfection...

The Shaykh : Complete
The student: because of the perfection of His attributes

The Shaykh : Because of the perfection of His attributes, no one is comparable to Him in His attributes. So pay attention to the difference. May Allah reward you. Every person of ta'til (denial of the divine attributes), if you asked them why they said that, they would say: because if you affirmed such a thing, it would be similar or comparable to the created. So for them, He has no likeness because of the absence of His attributes, because He has no attribute. And this is undoubtedly a deniable statement. Rather, we say He has no likeness because of the perfection of His attributes. Now, the evidence is the saying of Allah the Exalted
There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing. ليس كمثله شيء وهو السميع البصير
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
nothing شيء
an indefinite noun in the context
The student: Denial.

The Shaykh : of negation, so it becomes
The student: general

The Shaykh : general. Nothing of His creation resembles Him, ever, because of the perfection of His attributes. Yes.
and He is the Hearing, the Seeing. وهو السميع البصير
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
that is, the One with perfect hearing and perfect sight. And the discussion of this verse itself has already taken place, so there is no need to repeat it or to repeat the discussion of it.
