A Word on Creed

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
Creed is what the heart holds in the way of belief. We have previously explained this and clarified that creed can be true or false. What agrees with the Book and the Sunnah is true, and what contradicts the Book and the Sunnah is false. Likewise, in other matters, a belief that corresponds to reality is true, and one that contradicts it is false. So if you believe that so-and-so arrived in the country yesterday, and he did arrive, then what is my belief?
The student: Truth.

The Shaykh : True. But if you believe that he arrived in the country yesterday, and he did not arrive, then your belief is false. This is because creed is what the heart holds; if it agrees [with reality], it is true, and if it contradicts [reality], it is false.
