The Shaykh : So, "And so they were in the caliphate by divine decree, just as they were in virtue by the Shari'ah". By the Shari'ah and by divine decree, and likewise in the caliphate. So Allah (Mighty and Majestic) guided the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) so that the caliph after the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was Abu Bakr, then 'Umar, then 'Uthman, then 'Ali.
He said: "And it was not for Allah — and to Him belongs the perfect wisdom — to appoint over the best of the generations a man while among them was one who was better than him and more deserving of the caliphate".
This is an argument based on the implications of wisdom, and there has been discussion regarding it: "It was not for Allah to appoint over the best of the generations a man while among them was one who was better than him and more deserving of the caliphate". Some scholars say, or some of the brothers say: Was not a man appointed over the Muslims in the caliphate while among them was one who was better than him?
We say: Yes, but not in the time of the best of the community. It is true that after the Rightly Guided Caliphs, one who was not the best of the Islamic community was appointed over it, but we are speaking about the best of the community. It was not for Allah the Exalted to appoint over this chosen people a man while among them was one who was better than him, because the wisdom of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) forbids this. As for after that, there is no doubt that some of the caliphs were lower, and lower, and much lower than many of the people. Yes.
