His other question asks: Is it also obligatory for us to pay zakah from the value of this harvest after selling it for cash if the lunar year has passed?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : His other question asks: Is it also obligatory for us to pay zakah from the value of this harvest after selling it for cash if the lunar year has passed, or is it sufficient to pay its zakah from its kind only?

The Shaykh : If he paid its zakah at the time of harvest or when he gathered it, and if it was fruit, then if it remains with him as it is, its zakah is not repeated a second time. However, if he sold it for dirhams or prepared it for trade thereafter, it is obligatory for him to pay its zakah when the lunar year is completed on these dirhams he received as exchange, or when the lunar year is completed from his intention to trade with it. Because if he intended to trade with it, it becomes trade goods, and zakah is obligatory on trade goods. And if he sold this harvest for cash, it becomes cash and transforms into the zakah of cash, except that zakah is not obligatory on him until a lunar year is completed for him.

The questioner : Yes, in this case, it is not considered that he paid the zakah twice?

The Shaykh : Yes, he paid the zakah twice, but the first time: for its zakah as it came out of the ground.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And the second time: for its zakah as cash or as trade goods. Therefore, there is a difference in the amount between them. In cash, it is one-quarter of one-tenth, and likewise in the value of trade goods, it is one-quarter of one-tenth.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
These are three questions sent by the listener Saleh Al-Oush Hasan from Iraq, Nineveh.
