Paying zakah from the value of the land upon sale

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 15694 )
Q: I am a person who owns a large number of lands, some of which I have had for ten years, and some for one or two years. I do not pay the zakah on these lands until after selling them, and I pay the zakah from the value of the land upon sale . Is the method I use correct? What should I do if the method is wrong, and what is my obligation regarding the past? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.
A: Whoever owns merchandise for trade whose value reaches the nisab, and a lunar year has passed since he acquired it for trade, must appraise it at the end of the year. Whatever reaches the nisab, he must pay its zakah, which is one-quarter of a tenth of its value (2.5%). Accordingly, you must pay the zakah on the lands based on this principle every year, according to their value each year. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
