The Shaykh : Good, and among the benefits of this hadith, and the one before it as well, is the legislator's concern for the protection of wealth, and that it not be spent except in matters where benefit is realized. As for matters that yield no benefit, or matters that involve harm, the legislator prohibits spending wealth in them. For this reason, there are several principles in the Shari'ah, among them is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And do not give the weak-minded your property, which Allah has made a means of sustenance for you ولا تأتوا السّفهاء أموالكم التي جعل الله لكم قياما
[An-Nisa 4:5]
Thus, Allah the Exalted clarified the wisdom behind this wealth: what is it? It is the sustenance for people, by which the interests of their religion and their worldly affairs are established. It is also established in the authentic hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited the squandering of wealth. These hadiths and their like all indicate the Shari'ah's protection of wealth and its care for it.
Good, and among the benefits of the hadith is the Shari'ah's avoidance of every matter that leads to regret, dispute, or enmity. How is that? Because the prohibition of these sales was for wisdoms, among them that a person should not experience regret. Suppose you hired a stallion to mount a female you have, and it mounted her but she did not conceive. Would you experience regret or not?
The student: It would be achieved.

The Shaykh : Huh?
The student: It would be achieved.

The Shaykh : Yes, you would. You would say, "My money was wasted." You would hire a second one, and likewise a third.
Whatever causes regret for a person, the Shari'ah commands us to stay away from it. For this reason, there are also principles, among them
that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, said:
Private conversation is only from Satan that he may grieve those who have believed, but he will not harm them at all except by permission of Allah إنّما النّجوى من الشّيطان ليحزن الذين آمنوا وليس بضارّهم شيئا إلّا بإذن الله
[Al-Mujadila 58:10]
And Allah the Exalted only informed us of this so that we would avoid this thing. It is not merely a report that Satan wants to sadden us; no, the intent is that we stay away from everything that causes sadness. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Two should not converse to the exclusion of another until they are mixing with people since that would distress him. لا يتناجى اثنان دون الثالث من أجل أنّ ذلك يحزنه
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 1171
So whatever brings sadness to a person is prohibited.
Second: The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the one who sees a dream he dislikes to spit on his left side three times, seek refuge in Allah from its evil and from the evil of Satan, turn over to the other side, and not tell anyone about it. He should perform wudu' and pray. All of this is so that a person drives away these worries that come with such dreams. For this reason, some of the Companions said: "We used to see dreams and we would become ill from them" We became ill, but when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us of this hadith, meaning they found relief and no longer had any worry. So whatever brings worry, sadness, and grief, the legislator wants us to avoid it, to avoid it.
For this reason, Allah the Exalted said:
so whoever has made Hajj obligatory upon himself therein [by entering the state of ihram], there is [to be for him] no sexual relations and no disobedience and no disputing during Hajj فمن فرض فيهنّ الحجّ فلا رفث ولا فسوق ولا جدال في الحجّ
[Al-Baqarah 2:197]
Because argumentation causes a person to defend himself, meaning he changes in his thinking for the sake of arguing, and he becomes worried, which distracts him from worship.
The important thing is to keep this before your eyes always: that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, wants you to always be happy, far from sadness.
And in reality, a person has three states: a past state, a present state, and a future state. The past is something a person forgets, along with the worries in it; it has ended as it was. If it was a calamity, say, "O Allah, compensate me in my calamity and replace it for me with something better," and forget it. For this reason, wailing is prohibited. Why? Because it renews sorrows and reminds one of them.
A future state: its knowledge is with whom?
The student: With Allah.

The Shaykh : With Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Rely on Allah, and if matters come to you, seek a solution for them. But the thing for which the legislator commanded you to prepare, do so; prepare for it. And the present state is the one you are able to deal with. Try to stay away from everything that brings what? Worry, sadness, and grief, so that you are always at ease, with an open chest, turning to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and to His worship, and to your worldly and hereafter affairs. If you do this, you will be at ease. But if you tire yourself out with what has passed, or with concern for the future in a manner not permitted by the Shari'ah, know that you will tire yourself and miss out on much good.
