What is the definitive ruling regarding Adam: is he a prophet or a messenger?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh, may Allah reward you, what is the definitive ruling regarding Adam (peace be upon him): is he a prophet?

The Shaykh : A prophet, a prophet and not a messenger.

The questioner : Shaykh, an incident occurred in Lebanon where a judge ruled for the divorce of a woman from her husband because he was adamant that Adam was not a prophet, and he cited this verse as evidence:
Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], as We revealed to Noah إنا أوحينا إليك كما أوحينا إلى نوح
[An-Nisa 4:163]
.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : And he said that Allah mentioned Noah first when He mentioned anyone.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : And Noah came after Adam, so he said that Adam was not a prophet.

The Shaykh : The Messenger said that he is a prophet who was spoken to, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that he is a prophet who was spoken to. Then, His saying:
We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], as We revealed أوحينا إليك كما أوحينا
[An-Nisa 4:163]
this is the revelation of the message. For this reason, people will say to Noah on the Day of Resurrection:
No, you are not the first messenger whom Allah sent to the people of the earth لا أنت أول رسول أرسله الله إلى أهل الأرض
, the first messenger.

The questioner : O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Yes.
