Explanation of the Book: The Beginning of Revelation, Faith, and Knowledge-02a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Amr ibn Khalid narrated to us, saying: Al-Layth narrated to us from Yazid from Abu al-Khayr from Abdullah ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both):
that a man asked the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, "Which is the best of Islam?" He replied, "Feeding people and giving the greeting to those you know and those you do not know." أن رجلا سأل النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم : أي الإسلام خير ؟ قال : تطعم الطعام وتقرأ السلام على من عرفت ومن لم تعرف
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 1050
.

The Shaykh : Allah is the Greatest,
You feed people تطعم الطعام
, but feeding people is in the situation where that is praised, either to draw near to Allah by feeding the poor, or to show affection to your wealthy brothers, and showing affection to the believers is undoubtedly good, and a person is praised for doing it.
extend greetings to one whom you know or do not know وتقرأ السلام على من عرفت ومن لم تعرف
Sahih Muslim 39
, you read, meaning you greet with peace,
to one whom you know or do not know على من عرفت ومن لم تعرف
Sahih Muslim 39
, on the one you know to be a Muslim, and the one you do not know to be a Muslim, or the one you know to be so-and-so and the one you do not know to be so-and-so?

The questioner : The second.

The Shaykh : The second, the second means that whenever you pass by, you greet them with peace, whether you know them or not, because if you do that, it is known that you are greeting in following the Sunnah, and reviving this rite from the rites of Islam, but if you only greet those you know, does your greeting become strange?
Only for the sake of knowing them, and this is what many people are afflicted with today, yes, many people today are afflicted with this thing, a person meets you, does not know you, does not greet you, even if one person is with you and your companion is with you, he does not greet you, but in such a situation, do you hold his hand and say to him, "Come, why did you not greet me," or do you let him go?

The questioner : It depends.

The Shaykh : No, I think you should hold him and say, "Come, why did you not greet me," and we always do this when we hold him: "Come, why did you not greet me," perhaps his face will turn pale from fear, and he will say, "By Allah, I was inattentive," inattentive? How can you be inattentive when you see the men walking in front of you, yes.
This is, in my opinion, something he will never forget in his life, yes, he will greet, if Allah wills, in the future, those he knows and those he does not know.

The questioner : He might extend his hand afterwards.

The Shaykh : ...

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : By Allah, look, if people were accustomed to this, if for example a person is afraid that it will not be accepted from him, he says to him, "Come, my brother, may Allah reward you with good, in the greeting to you are ten good deeds, and it is a cause for love, and love is the perfection of faith, and the perfection of faith is a cause for entering Paradise, and you encourage him, you say, "Now, if someone told you, look, every time you meet a person and greet him, I will give you a riyal, will he greet or not greet?"

The questioner : He will greet.

The Shaykh : He will go around the market where there are people present to greet them, yes, and you do not greet, for you have ten good deeds stored with Allah, by which your faith increases in this world and your reward in the Hereafter, we do not cooperate in reality.
