Explanation of the Book: The Beginning of Revelation, Faith, and Knowledge-02b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abdullah ibn Muslimah narrated from Malik, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Sa'sa'ah, from his father, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A time will soon come when the best property of a Muslim will be sheep which he will take on the top of mountains and the places of rainfall (valleys) so as to flee with his religion from afflictions. يوشك أن يكون خير مال المسلم غنم يتبع بها شعف الجبال ومواقع القطر يفر بدينه من الفتن
Sahih al-Bukhari 19
.

The Shaykh : It seems to me that you will make a mistake, Mustafa, because he raised the predicate of "kana": "yushak" (it is near), and he made its subject accusative. My intention is to make the subject of "yaku" accusative and its predicate nominative, is that not so?

The questioner : No.

The Shaykh : No?

The questioner : Placing the predicate before the subject.

The Shaykh : What is this, an answer to what?

The questioner : To placing the predicate.

The Shaykh : To placing the predicate before the subject, and for this reason he said:
the sheep which follows in the mountain غنم يتبع بها شعف
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5036Sahih (Darussalam)
, and this is clear.
Fine, and it is permissible in other constructions; it is permissible to say: "The best of a Muslim's wealth is sheep," making "the best" the subject and "sheep" the predicate.

The questioner : We have: "ghunman" (sheep, accusative).

The Shaykh : "Ghunman," glory be to Allah. The important point is that both this and that are permissible in terms of construction. Fine.
the tops of the mountains شعف الجبال
, meaning their tops, and
the places where rain falls مواقع القطر
means the places of rain, such as the open fields, plains, and pastures. And when is this?
He says:
fleeing with his religion from the tribulations يفر بدينه من الفتن
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5036Sahih (Darussalam)

And his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The Euphrates will soon يوشك
means it is near, and this happened when the trial occurred between Ali ibn Abi Talib and Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with them both) and after that. So some people withdrew and became distant from all these trials.
And it is taken from this hadith that it is obligatory for a person to preserve his religion before he preserves the comfort of his body.
