The reciter: Abdullah ibn Yusuf narrated to us, Malik informed us, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Sa'sa'ah, from his father, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 19.
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Chapter on Retreating to the Desert in Times of Fitnah", meaning going out to the wilderness until one becomes a Bedouin. Then he mentioned hadiths indicating its permissibility if one fears fitnah. Among them is the hadith of Salama ibn al-Akwa'Sunan al-Bayhaqi 16:634, and the second hadith from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 19 "The time is near," meaning it is approaching. If a person fears for himself and fitnah has become prevalent in the cities, he should go out. However, if he does not fear for himself, he should remain in order to call people to good and remove evil and fitnah from them. If he is capable of doing so, it is not permissible for him to go out to the Bedouins; rather, he should stay in the cities and keep the people in the state of goodness they are in, avoiding fitnah. This is evidence that retreating to the desert without need is one of the causes of apostasy. Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded in the hadith of Buraydah that if some people respond to the call, they should migrate from their desert to the cities and villages, so that they may have what the Muslims have and be subject to what the Muslims are subject to.
A time will soon come when the best property of a Muslim will be sheep which he will take on the top of mountains and the places of rainfall (valleys) so as to flee with his religion from afflictions.
