And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh who concealed his faith said, "Do you kill a man
وقال رجل مؤمن من آل فرعون يكتم إيمانه أتقتلون رجلا [Ghafir 40:28]
to the end of it. When this believing man heard Pharaoh’s threat to kill Moses, he said that. Consider the context of the verse:
And a believing man
وقال رجل مؤمن [Ghafir 40:28]
He did not specify him by name but said “a believing man,” concealing his identity, because the intention is not to know the name; rather, the intention is to know the case. As for specifying names, that is from the superfluous knowledge, meaning that if it happens, that is good, but if it does not happen, it is not of importance.
And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh
وقال رجل مؤمن من آل فرعون [Ghafir 40:28]
A believer in Allah, and perhaps we can say a believer in Moses as well.
from the people of Pharaoh
من آل فرعون [Al-Baqarah 2:49]
It is possible that the intended meaning is from his relatives, because the family of a person is his kin. It is also possible that the intended meaning is from his followers, because the term “family” (al) is used for followers. In any case, the man was not from the Children of Israel, but from the people of Pharaoh, whether he was from his relatives or from his people who belonged to him.
