Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
When Allah the Exalted mentioned repelling the enemy from among the children of Adam, He mentioned repelling the enemy from other than the children of Adam, saying:
And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allah وإما ينزغنك من الشيطان نزغٌ فاستعذ بالله
[Al-A'raf 7:200]
Look, regarding the repelling of the enemy from other than the children of Adam, He did not say: “Repel with that which is best.” He said: “Take refuge in Allah,” because you will not be able to repel Satan except by taking refuge in Allah, Mighty and Majestic, since Satan is not in front of you for you to twist his neck and kill him, but rather he is not repelled except by Allah. For this reason, He said:
And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan وإما ينزغنك من الشيطان
[Al-A'raf 7:200]
The connection between this verse and the one before it is that when He mentioned repelling the enemy from among the children of Adam, He mentioned repelling the enemy from other than the children of Adam, saying:
And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allah وإما ينزغنك من الشيطان نزغ فاستعذ بالله
[Al-A'raf 7:200]
