Continuation of the commentary on Tafsir al-Jalalayn: “And no female carries or delivers except by His knowledge, and the Day He will call them, ‘Where are My partners?’ They will say, ‘We informed You’” — We informed You

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
And on this basis, there is no difference in meaning between *thamarat* (fruits) and *thamarah* (fruit) "
And no fruit emerges وما تخرج من ثمرة
And in a reading, *thamarat*
from its sheaths من أكمامها
from their sheaths, their containers "
. The sheaths are the containers. He says: " The plural
kimmكِمّ
with a kasrah on the kaf, except by His knowledge "
. The sheaths are the containers of the date clusters, and this is well known in palm trees. It is also well known in flowers; you find a flower with a covering, and this is called a *kimm*. So no fruit emerges from its *kimm* except by the knowledge of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Whether the fruit is small or large, edible or not, it is by the knowledge of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). The reason it is by His knowledge is that these dates are created by Allah, and everything created by Allah is known to Him, as Allah the Exalted said:
Does He who created not know, while He is the Subtle, the Acquainted? ألا يعلم من خلق وهو اللطيف الخبير
[Al-Mulk 67:14]
So whenever you acknowledge that Allah is the Creator of these, it follows from your acknowledgment that Allah is aware of them, because it is impossible for Him to create them while not knowing them. For this reason, Allah provided rational evidence:
Does He who created not know, while He is the Subtle, the Acquainted? ألا يعلم مَن خلق وهو اللطيف الخبير
[Al-Mulk 67:14]
.
And fruits emerge not from their coverings nor does a female conceive or give birth except with His knowledge. وما تخرج من ثمرات من أكمامها وما تحمل من أنثى ولا تضَعُ إلا بعلمه
[Fussilat 41:47]
No female carries, any female among the children of Adam or among animals, any female, and no female delivers except by the knowledge of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). So the beginning of pregnancy is known to Allah, and its delivery is likewise known to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). We return to His saying:
any femaleمن أنثى
and to His saying
from the fruitمن ثمرة
. The grammatical analysis:
Whoمن
is an extra preposition: extra in terms of grammar, but not extra in terms of meaning, because it conveys a meaning, which is emphasis. And on this basis, we say:
from the fruitمن ثمرة
Whoمن
is an extra preposition, and
fruitثمرة
is a nominative subject raised by a hidden dammah on its end, the appearance of which is prevented by the movement of the place being occupied by the extra preposition. Likewise, it is said:
any femaleمن أنثى
Whoمن
is an extra preposition, and
femaleأنثى
is a nominative subject raised by a hidden dammah on its end, the appearance of which is prevented by impossibility, and it is in the place of genitive case in form due to the entry of
Whoمن
upon it. And His saying
except by His knowledge إلا بعلمه
: Is the knowledge mentioned prior or occurring at the existence of this thing? The answer is: prior, because the knowledge of Allah the Exalted encompasses everything from eternity to eternity, so He knows what emerges from fruits from their sheaths until the Day of Resurrection, and likewise what a female carries and what she delivers.
Then He said, the Exalted:
And the Day He will call to them, "Where are My 'partners'?" ويوم يناديهم أين شركائي
[Fussilat 41:47]
meaning:
A dayيوم
is a circumstantial phrase, and a circumstantial phrase requires what it relates to, because it is an object in which, and if it is an object in which, there must be a verb that acts upon it. So where is the actor? The actor in this is estimated, and the estimation is: And remember the Day He will call them. And this expression is found frequently in the Qur'an, and the estimation, as I mentioned, is: the actor is omitted, the estimation is: remember the Day He will call them, ‘Where are My partners,’ to the end of it. And Allah the Exalted commanded His Prophet to mention this to frighten these deniers and to console the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). And His saying:
calls them يناديهم
means He calls them with a loud voice, because a call is made with a loud voice, and a private conversation is made with a lower voice. The actor of
calls themيناديهم
is Allah, as evidenced by His saying:
Where are My partners?أين شركائي
meaning that Allah the Exalted calls these polytheists, saying: Where are My partners? And this interrogation is for incapacitation and reprimand as well, so it combines two meanings: incapacitation, and the second is reprimand, meaning: Where are those you associated with Me? Allah the Exalted says:
They said, "We have informed you قالوا آذَنَّاك
We informed You now
there is [no longer] among us any witness مَا مِنَّا مِن شَهِيد
[Fussilat 41:47]
.
informedآذَن
means to inform, and from this is His saying, the Exalted:
And [it is] an announcement from Allah and His Messenger وأذانٌ مِن الله ورسوله
[At-Tawbah 9:3]
informedآذَن
means to inform, and from this is what is in the hadith that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said to the women who were washing his daughter:
when you are finished, then inform me إذا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَآذِنَّنِي
meaning: Inform me.
informed youآذناك
The author says: " We informed You now " So the author, by his saying: " now ", indicated that the past tense verb
We have informed youآذنَّاك
means the present tense, so it is a present indicative sentence meaning: Now we inform you that none of us is a witness. It was said: *A'adhnaaka* is a past tense verb in its proper form, so it means a report about a past thing. Pay attention now! We have two positions: Is the information here on the Day of Resurrection, as the author said
We have informed you nowآذناك الآن
, or is it prior information in this world? If we look at the apparent wording, we say: We prefer that it is information in this world, meaning: We informed You in this world, so it is on its apparent meaning. But this interpretation is problematic because the reality of their state does not indicate this, because they are actually polytheists, so how do they inform Him that none of them is a witness to that? Those who said this answered: The meaning is we informed You according to the fitrah and what is in our hearts, because no newborn is born except on the fitrah. Pay attention now to the meaning: *A'adhnaaka*, its form is: a past tense verb that requires this information to be prior to the time of the address. This is one.
We have informed youآذناك
is a past tense verb, but it is intended to report on the present state, so it means: We inform You now. This interpretation contradicts the apparent wording, but it agrees with the reality of their state. The first interpretation agrees with the wording, but it contradicts the apparent state of theirs, because they do not inform Him of that, as they are actually polytheists. Those who say that it is
We have informed youآذناك
in this world answered that they informed Him according to the fitrah on which they were created, because no newborn is born except on the fitrah.
they will say, "We announce to You that there is [no longer] among us any witness [to that]." قالوا آذناك ما منا من شهيد
[Fussilat 41:47]
meaning a witness that You have a partner. "
There is no witness among usما منا من شهيد
notما
is a negation, and
from Usمنا
is a preposition and its object, a fronted predicate, and
Whoمن
is an extra preposition in terms of grammar, and
Witnessشهيد
is a nominative subject raised by a hidden dammah on its end, the appearance of which is prevented by the occupation of the place by the movement of the extra preposition. Meaning its meaning is: We have acknowledged that no one of us witnesses that You have a partner. And they say this now, but it does not benefit them, because it is an acknowledgment after witnessing the punishment, and an acknowledgment after witnessing the punishment is not beneficial. For this reason, Pharaoh acknowledged when he was drowned that there is no god except the One in whom the Children of Israel believed, but it did not benefit him, so it was said to him:
Now? And you had disobeyed [Him] before and were of the corrupters? الآن وقد عصيت قبل وكنت من المفسدين
[Yunus 10:91]
