Continuing the discussion on the special guardianship.

The Shaykh : And His saying:
Allah is the ally of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the light. And those who disbelieve - their allies are Taghut. They take them out of the light into darknesses
[Al-Baqarah 2:257]
And Allah the Exalted said:
(62) Unquestionably, [for] the allies of Allah there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve (63) Those who believed and were fearing Allah
[Yunus 10:62-63]

As for the second aspect of the hadith regarding guardianship, it is the servant's guardianship of Allah. This does not divide; rather, it is a single category. It is specific to whom? To the believers who are the party of Allah.
And whoever is an ally of Allah and His Messenger and those who have believed - indeed, the party of Allah - they will be the predominant.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:56]
This is specific to the believers who take Allah and His Messenger as their guardians, by performing obedience to Allah with sincerity to Him and following the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The statement of Ibn Mas'ud here, if the report is authentic from him, is that the guardianship of Allah is only attained...
The student: Ibn Abbas

The Shaykh : Ibn Abbas. Yes, Ibn Abbas.
Indeed, the guardianship of Allah is only attained...
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 34:545
And what is his meaning? Which of the two guardianships? The special one, the special guardianship.
So the summary now is that guardianship has two aspects: from Allah to the servant, and from the servant to Allah. The first divides into two categories: general guardianship and special guardianship. The second does not divide; it is only one single category. Know that guardianship is not attained by claim. Rather, whoever claims guardianship is the farthest from guardianship, because whoever claims guardianship has certified himself and fallen into what Allah has forbidden him, because Allah says:
So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him.
[An-Najm 53:32]
So whoever says to people that he is a wali (close friend of Allah) is among the farthest people from guardianship. This hardly occurs except from one who distorts the truth and one who deceives people, misleading them. Perhaps the Shayatins (Satan) assist him in some of what he intends, so that they may turn them away from the path of Allah. Yes, but if a person suspects in himself guardianship but does not claim it, does this affect his guardianship?
The student: No.

The Shaykh : In any case, if that leads to pride in himself and showing off to Allah the Exalted with his deeds, then there is no doubt that this is a defect. As for one who rejoices in it, believing it in his heart, rejoicing in it while acknowledging that it is from the favor of Allah upon him, but he wants to bring joy to himself and good omen, then yes, this does not affect his sincerity or his religion. This matter is like other works of the heart. Indeed, the works of the heart are among the most dangerous. The works of the heart are more dangerous than a fleeting thought. The radio, if you want to change it from one wave to another or from one station to another, requires effort. But the thoughts of the hearts do not require effort; rather, in an instant, at the slightest moment, the thought shifts from the bottom to the top and from the top to the bottom. Perhaps thoughts come in succession and crowd together, so there are multiple thoughts in the heart. The important thing is that the one who claims guardianship with his words, claiming it before people, we say this is the farthest from guardianship, because he does not have the mindfulness of Allah that would prevent him from what Allah has forbidden him in His saying:
So do not claim yourselves to be pure
[An-Najm 53:32]
And guardianship is not for anyone but a believing, mindful person.
Without informing people of it. So I told you that it has two states: one that leads him to pride and showing off to Allah with his deeds and boasting to Allah with it, and this scratches his faith and religion and harms him. The second is that he rejoices in it and sees it as a blessing from Allah upon him and sees its effects, yes, so he praises Allah for that and increases in joy and good omen, and there is no harm in that. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) liked good omens.
