Witr is the conclusion of the night prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: We know that the witr prayer concludes the prayer of the night and the day. I was once in the mosque, and after I prayed 'Isha', I prayed the shaf' and the witr. Then, as I was leaving, a friend met me and insisted that I pray with him so that he could earn the reward of congregational prayer. What is the Islamic ruling on this?

A: Witr is the conclusion of the night prayer, not the conclusion of the day prayer. Maghrib is what concludes the day prayer, as it is the witr of the day. As for tahajjud at night, it is concluded with witr (one rak'ah), so the rak'ah is the conclusion of the night prayer. However, there is no objection to praying whatever one wishes after it. Likewise, if one prays witr at the beginning of the night and then Allah facilitates for him to stand in prayer at the end of the night, it is prescribed for him to pray whatever is easy: two rak'ahs, four rak'ahs, or more, in pairs, and he does not repeat the witr; the first witr is sufficient for him. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
There are no two Witr in one night.لا وتران في ليلةٍ
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 470Sahih (Darussalam)
. If he happens to meet a group of his brothers and prays with them, or a brother among his brothers and prays with him, there is no harm in that and no blame; because this is a prayer prompted by the circumstances that occurred to him, such as his brother's request to pray with him, or a group he loves to pray with, or the ample time at the end of the night and his desire to pray whatever is easy. All of this is permissible.
The point is that there is no blame on a person for praying after the witr at the end of the night, but he does not repeat the witr; rather, the first witr is sufficient for him.
