Prayer at the Workplace

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The questioner, brother A. M. from Al-Ras in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, says in his question: We are a group of employees working in a government department comprising approximately 30 employees. We pray in the department's prayer hall behind the person in charge of the department, and some of our colleagues do not pray with us; rather, they pray in a mosque located about 300 meters from us. What is the correct course of action? Do we pray in the prayer hall, or do we go to the mosque to pray with the congregation? It is known that the person in charge said, when this was mentioned to him: If they go to the mosque, they might be late returning to their work. Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you with good.

A: It is obligatory for you to perform the prayer in the mosque with your Muslim brothers; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever hears the call and does not come, his prayer is not valid, except for those who have an excuse.من سمع النداء فلم يأته فلا صلاة له إلا من عذر
Sunan Ibn Majah 793Sahih (Darussalam)
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) — the narrator of this hadith — was asked: What is the excuse? He said: Fear or illness. It was narrated by Ibn Majah, al-Daraqutni, Ibn Hibban, and al-Hakim with a sound chain of narration meeting the conditions of Muslim.
And due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a blind man who had no guide to lead him to the mosque asked if he could pray in his house? He said to him (peace and blessings be upon him):
Do you hear the call to prayer?هل تسمع النداء للصلاة؟
He said: Yes. He said:
Then respond.فأجب
It was narrated by Muslim in his Sahih.
And the hadiths in this meaning are numerous. May Allah guide everyone to what pleases Him.
