The Ruling on the Hadith: “Whoever straightens the left side of the rows has two rewards”
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The 'Isha' prayer was established, and the right side of the first row was full, while the left side had only a few people. So we said, “Straighten the row from the left.” One of the worshippers said, “The right is better.” But one of the people responded to him and brought up the hadith: “Whoever straightens the left side of the rows has two rewards!” Please advise us on what is correct in this matter?
A: It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) what indicates that the right side of every row is better than its left. It is not prescribed to tell people to straighten the row, and there is no harm in the right side of the row having more people, in order to strive to attain the virtue.
As for the hadith mentioned by some of the attendees: “Whoever straightens the left side of the rows has two rewards,” it is a weak hadith. Ibn Majah narrated it with a weak chain of narration.
