Specifying a particular time for feeding on behalf of the deceased is among the newly introduced innovations

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A Muslim man died, leaving behind many children who have wealth and good things. Is it permissible for them to slaughter from the sheep for the deceased, or to knead bread for him on the seventh day or the fortieth day as a gift to him, and for the Muslims to gather for it?

Answer:
Giving charity on behalf of a deceased person is prescribed, and feeding the poor and needy, being generous with them, showing compassion to neighbors, and honoring Muslims are among the forms of righteousness and good that the Shari'ah encourages. However, slaughtering sheep, cattle, camels, birds, or the like for the deceased at the time of death, or on a specific day such as the seventh day, the fortieth day, Thursday, Friday, or the night of Friday, in order to give charity to the deceased at that time, is among the religious innovations and newly invented matters that did not exist in the time of our righteous predecessors (may Allah have mercy on them). Therefore, these religious innovations must be abandoned; because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718a
and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error.إياكم ومحدثاتت الأمور فإن كل محدثة بدعة وكل بدعة ضلالة
Sunan Abi Dawud 4607Sahih (Al-Albani)
