Ruling on fulfilling the deceased's will to be buried in his birthplace

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The brother A. M. A. from Riyadh says in his question: Some people, especially the elderly, reside permanently in Riyadh. Before their death, they will that they be buried in their birthplace, which may be more than one hundred kilometers from Riyadh. Some of them are prayed over in Riyadh and also in the place where they will be buried. Is this in accordance with the Shari'ah, and are the heirs obligated to fulfill this will?

A: It is prescribed to bury a person in the country where he died, if it is an Islamic country. It is not prescribed to transfer him to another place, and the heirs are not obligated to fulfill the will of one who wills to be transferred, because there is no evidence for that, and because it contradicts the practice of the Salaf of the Ummah, and because of the burden it entails. And success is from Allah.
