What is watered by rain and rivers: the tenth
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: There are some farms whose owners rely on rain for their agriculture. Is there zakah on the produce of this agriculture? And does it differ from other produce that is watered by machines and pumps?
A: What is watered by rain, rivers, and flowing springs, from grains and fruits such as dates, raisins, wheat, and barley, has the tenth due on it.
And what is watered by machines and the like has half the tenth due on it; for it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sunan Abi Dawud 1596Sahih (Al-Albani). Al-Bukhari narrated it in his Sahih from the hadith of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).
A: What is watered by rain, rivers, and flowing springs, from grains and fruits such as dates, raisins, wheat, and barley, has the tenth due on it.
And what is watered by machines and the like has half the tenth due on it; for it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
A tenth is payable on what is watered by rain or rivers or brooks or from underground moisture and a twentieth on what is watered by draught camels.
