Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The hadith:
O Allah, feed those who fed us, and give drink to those who gave us drink
.

The Shaykh : How?

The questioner
O Allah, feed those who fed us, and give drink to those who gave us drink
. Some scholars hold that this supplication is only to be said when asking for rain, not after feeding others; so what is the stronger position in this matter?

The Shaykh : I heard this from one of our studentsAl-Halabi : who was written to go to Kuwait to spread the Salafi da'wah there, then Allah decreed that he should die in Australia, and he isThe Shaykh : 'Abd al-Rahman 'Abd al-Samad Abu Yusuf. It is true that the hadith came about on this occasion, but restricting it is a phrase of supplication; so do you not think that if the feeding actually took place, does it not deserve such a supplication, especially since he made this supplication before the feeding and before the giving of drink? So what I see is to stop at the occasion of the hadith, as long as, as He said - the Exalted - :
And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].
[Ad-Duhaa 93:4]
, this is what ... in this hadith.
Please.

The questioner : The speech that is said - for example - as an answer to this hadith; if a person says that the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
O Allah, feed those who fed us, and give drink to those who gave us drink
was said on the basis of a habit he was accustomed to; and that he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to eat and drink milk before, so he said this supplication based on his usual habit from before, so he said this supplication based on his habit from before, so it indicates to you that this supplication is after the food ... .

The Shaykh : How?

The questioner : If someone says that the answer in this hadith is that it is to be said after feeding; then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) - it was his habit that he would come to the cup and find milk in it and drink it, so when he came and did not find milk in it, or the cup was not in its usual state, he said:
O Allah, feed those who fed us, and give drink to those who gave us drink
based on his habit that he found food and would supplicate, so ... , so when he did not find this thing, he kept the supplication as it was on the original basis ... .

The Shaykh : But this is an opinion, as you say, an opinion ... , but if he repeats the same question, he will go around the subject again ... the permissibility of saying it on such an occasion and after the food.
Yes.
