Zakah is not obligatory on one who is hesitant about selling a piece of land
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I have a piece of land far from populated areas, and I have no intention of building on it, nor have I prepared it for trade. However, if a good sum of money were offered for it, I would sell it. Is zakah obligatory on it?
A: If you are determined to sell it, you must pay zakah on its value every year until you sell it. After the sale, you must pay zakah on the price whenever a lunar year passes while it is in your possession. However, if you are not certain about selling it, but are hesitant, then you owe no zakah. May Allah guide us all.
