The Ruling on Acting as a Proxy in Hajj and 'Umrah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: His Eminence Shaykh 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Baz (may Allah preserve him)
Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings. After that:
This letter was sent to you, hoping for your esteemed opinion on a matter concerning a bequest, which is:
My grandmother bequeathed to me that I perform Hajj on her behalf. Since I am bedridden due to my legs and advanced age, and I am unable to perform Hajj, I entrusted the aforementioned Muhammad ibn Sa'id to perform Hajj on my behalf. I also bore the costs of his Hajj, giving him two thousand six hundred riyals (2600) for this purpose. Does this Hajj fulfill that bequest? May Allah bless you.

Answer: And upon you be peace, and Allah’s mercy and blessings, and after that:
If the situation is as you described, you have done well in what you did. There is nothing wrong with the aforementioned Muhammad ibn Sa'id performing Hajj on behalf of your grandmother, provided he is trustworthy. May Allah guide everyone to what pleases Him, and may peace and the mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you.
