The ruling on fasting the six days of Shawwal? And the ruling for one who is unable to complete them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: The sister who used the initials S. K. L. for her name, from Amman in Jordan, says in her question: I started fasting the six days of Shawwal, but I was unable to complete them due to some circumstances and work, and I have two days remaining. What should I do, O honorable Shaykh? Do I have to make them up? And is there any sin on me for that?

Answer: Fasting the six days of Shawwal is a recommended act of worship, not obligatory. You receive the reward for what you fasted, and it is hoped that you will receive the full reward if the reason preventing you from completing them was a valid legal excuse. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
If a servant falls ill or travels, Allah writes for him what he used to do while resident and healthy.إذا مرض العبد أو سافر كتب الله له ما كان يعمل مقيمًا صحيحًا
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 5:6
narrated by al-Bukhari in his Sahih. You do not have to make up what you left. May Allah grant success.
