Question:
We return at the beginning of this episode to a message sent to the program from Libya, sent by one of the brother listeners from there. We presented some of his questions in a previous episode, and in this episode he asks about fasting the six days of Shawwal and their virtue? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
It is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sahih Muslim 1164a Narrated by Muslim in his Sahih. This indicates their virtue, and that fasting the six days along with Ramadan is like fasting the entire year, as if he fasted the whole year. This is a great virtue, for Ramadan is equivalent to ten months, and the six days are equivalent to two months, for one good deed is rewarded with ten times its like, so it is as if he fasted the whole year. Although, by His gentleness (Exalted and Majestic is He), Allah made Ramadan an expiation for what occurred between the two Ramadans, so the six days contain an increase in good, a great benefit, and a great advantage in obeying the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in following the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his encouragement, and in being eager to perform what Allah has legislated of worship. This is a great good, and the believer seeks out what Allah has legislated, obeys it, and seeks the reward from Allah. He has a great reward in this. Yes.
